Also, I'll take Microsofts Live! over a 3rd party multiplayer solution any day.
I won't. The company that made the game will focus on the game play online, instead of letting MS screw with it.

You can't rent Blue-Ray movies
Yes you can.

and who would want to buy one for $35.
The same thing was said when DVDs came out. They went for the same price back then. BTW, all the BR discs that I've see sit around $29.99 with many at $24.99.

What games are going to need more that a full DVD-9 worth of space (nothing...).
Apparently you haven't read what some of the developers have said about the PS3 games then. All of them are over 9GB as of right now.

SONY has a long history of pushing media formats that die - about 10 different ones now (DAT, BETA-MAX, etc etc).
So? What's your point. Sony has also had a long history in dominating the gaming industry and knows what gamers want. MS is trying to get into it and really aren't doing well at it, IMO. Besides, the two formats you listed are huge in the professional industry.

The PC is the king of gaming, look at these new consoles...they aren't consoles anymore. "Can't beat'em.....then join'em." The PC is still a PC.

$600.00 for a Blue-ray player.... No thanks. Why would I want to support the next VHS/Beta war. Half the movie Industry supports Blue ray, the other half support HD-DVD, meaning Id have to buy two players to watch the next gen DVD's

Sorry to say I will never go back to a console gaming system again. I play PC games, and can do a lot more with the PC games then a console can do.

If I were to buy anything, its going to be the Nintendo Wii. They know how to price their product, and they are opening the back catalog of NES, SNEs, N64 games to be played from the internet. I hope PS3 becomes the real looser

There are more than 8 million Xbox 360's in circulation.

Xbox 360 now does 1080p

It has a 200 dollar hddvd addon.

I really dont get the my gaming rig is better than yours crap anyways. This is very little difference between the x360 and the ps3 anyways when it comes down to the actual game. If you took any game that was published for both consoles you could put the side by side and they would both look alike.

The features are not a selling point anywyas. I dont believe in consolidating everything down to one machine. So your kids want to play the ps3 and you want to play a blu-ray movie. Conflict!

In the end you would be better off getting seperate systems without all the garbage. The games are both shipping in dvd format not blu-ray.

Plus when you compare movie players HD-Dvd wins. Both formats are relatively expensive but HD-DVD's you get a HD side to the disk and the SD side to the disk. So you can still play it in the car dvd player, the bedroom, or your portable dvd player. You can still rip it down for your ipod or any other portable media player. Lets not forget the actual media on blu-ray exists right beneath the surface so any scratches will ruin the disc's. Is it any wonder that movie rentals and places like bestbuy are now selling insurance to replace your disc if it gets scratched. Better pay up because remember a rental place does not consider replacing the disk at cost the fair value. They try to charge 100 dollars in the lost value of the disk not rented while a replacement is being received.

So no PS3 is not a selling point at all just becuase it's intergrated with blu-ray.

Also it's the cost. That's about 2 days work for me to pay for it. I cant imagine what pain it would put on parents who made minimum wage. When it comes down to it Junior is going to get a Xbox 360 or even the Wii.

Sony thinks they're going to get a advantage selling the PS3 with blu-ray to get more players out there. Once the enthusaists pick up the systems I believe that sells will drop through the floor. The xbox 360 an the Wii will be readily available at a pricepoint that most can swallow. With players exceeding 800 dollars and the cost of this system compared to a upconverting hd-dvd player that costs 300 dollars out there it's a no brainer for those on a budget.

If this flops this will be a serious blow to Sony after the battery recall fiasco. They either take the blu-ray out and make it chaper so it sells and they make some money or it's most likey they'll go way into the red on this spruce goose and investors will flee them like rats on a sinking ship.

Dat and Beta-max is for PRO not the everyday person.

Beta is still used today in TV stations.

No, some games have the option of installing on the hard drive, the game isnt copied. It also doesnt boost preformance, it only speeds up load times making up for the lackluster preformance of a 2x blu ray drive.

No try $600 for a Bluray player and gaming system! And you can surf the net with it so its even sort of a computer. $600 sounds like a good deal to me.

Please show me where you can buy a Bluray player for under $600?

I don't care if it's Bluray, Blackray, or even Pinkray, it's a game - period.

So it surfs the net ... pphhfftt - oh my god, a browser on my TV !!! That was over a decade ago.

So, you have a $600 web surfing game ..... WHOOHOO !!!

I am talking about First party games of course.
You better hope and pray that you can find developers willing to develop for the platform. Consider:

- Developers are looking to shave costs while reaching the widest audience possible.
- Programming specifically for cell is a PITA
- Porting between PS3 and XB360 is relatively easy because their core architectures are basically the same tho straight ports won't use the cells.
- Straight ports are cheap and allow you to reach a larger audience.

Looking at the reality of the game industry at this point, I don't think your going to see many exclusives. What owners of PS3s and XB360s are looking at is a long series of titles developed to be cross platform; and considering that the only thing that makes cell better are the cells, if a game doesn't use them the PS3 is nothing but a gimped XB360. PS3 might win on paper but those numbers don't look like they're going to survive the jump to reality which puts it up there with such memorable sony failures as betamax, memorystick, minidisk, and CRT based HDTV's.

As for me, I'll stick to PC and possibly Wii.

Sorry Taylor. Most of the movie industry is behind Blu-Ray. Only two studios are backing HD-DVD exclusively. But go ahead and get the Wii if you plan on getting back to console gaming. It looks like it will be a hoot to play.

It sold fast in japan because there was only 80,000 to go around
If there were 180,000 they would be gone too!
An interesting quote from one of the linked sites from an American observer of the launch crowd:

"Hardcore gamers are not here waiting in line overnight, buying a first-run PS3, and running home to play some good old next-gen gaming. Rather, opportunistic Japanese businessmen have the largest presence, hiring poor Chinese men and women to wait in line for a PS3, one which will later be sold on web auctions to wealthy gamers around the world for exorbitant amounts of money."

These systems selling out fast on launch (for 360 and Wii as well) has little to do with gaming. Hell, the first buyer didn't even buy a game to go with the PS3.

Ok for $400 20GB XBOX 360 +$200 HD-DVD +$100 Wi-fi =$700 vs $600 for 60 PS2 that comes with Blu-ray and built in wi-fi and HDMI. Yes I know the 360 will eventualy have an HDMI adapter and that's my point, something else XBOX 360 owners will have to spend money on to get a machine equal to a PS3. What's that going to cost $50?

Not to mention if you want to have portable storage for game saves you have to spend $40 for a 64 MB memory card for the 360 where for the same price I can get a USB memory stick that has 512 MB of storage to use for the PS3. Also if I want a larger HDD I can use any notebook HDD on a PS3. For the 360 you have to use the ones MS makes for them which of course will be more expensive and that's WHENEVER they finally decide to make them.

P.S. By 2008 the Blue-Ray format will be dead or dying too.
Fact is you don't know WHICH one will win so you can make the case that Microsoft offering a HD-DVD drive add-on ONLY to it's 360 owners is also putting them in the same boat. What if they buy the HD-DVD add-on for $200 and HD-DVD loses out? $200 out the window. By the way expalin why a HD-DVD add-on can only cost $200 but and actual HD-DVD player is $500?

It's almost 2007 and the next gen DVD wars haven't even really begun. The VAST majority of people still use good old SDTVs. And those that do have HDTVs are still quite sastisfied with good old DVDs. It will be at least 8 years before a "winner" of the next gen DVD wars is determined and by then the XBOX 720 and PS4 will be out. So it won't matter who "won" to PS3 or 360 owners.

Well then you can make the case that anyone that has a computer that buys a game system of any type is a moron. Why not use your computer? For the price of a core version of the 360 you can buy a hell of a graphics card. And it should be able to hook up to your HDTV.

By the way this isn't a decade ago with WebTV and SDTVs. With a HDTV you get the same resolution as computer monitor. Most people use 800X600 or 1024X768 resolution. Most 720P HDTVs I see are 1366X768 some are 1280X720. The 1080 HDTVs are even higher resolution.

My referrence is in the concept of a browser on a TV, which is decade old technology, yet being hyped as such an awesome concept by PS3 advocates. What's the first thing someone says about PS3 after the tout of Blueray? Internet. Oh boy.

Not much graphics, outside of clear font, needed for ....... surfing the web.
