| Tried it.... Downloaded it. Tried it without using a key so I could see what the big deal is.
Just a really really shiny/polished OS without any major improvements (at the current time) that would make someone leave XP.
Maybe when we have software that can take advantage of the new OS it will be worth it, not now though.

1 edit | Re: Tried it.... Tried it as well. It doesn't seem complete because when your booting, there's no windows logo. Its just that animated bar. Maybe because its in VMWare? Yes the included key works for 30 days, and the cracks on the net do not work. It says 'key already in use' when trying to activate. Its pretty neat but already it shows that some of my apps are just not the same. I'll use this version and VMWare to monitor Vista until its ready for me. If I like it I'll buy it.

| Re: Tried it.... You are correct that it's an unfinished product to the point they were to lazy to even put the vista logo in the boot screen.
It has nothing to do with it being in vmware and has everything to do with them trying to rush the product to market. (after 5 years of developement, lol)

| Re: Tried it.... In development this is called, "Tighten up loose ends"
It goes hand in hand with a good product, especially one that is $400 for the 'best' version. Your argument is rediculous!
Part of the way you can tell a beta from a real product is the last bit of effort developers must make to really polish it up.
At the very least the "ULTIMATE" should at least have an ultimate startup screen.

I bet anything that this pirated near RTM version will be used to test for new exploits by malicious hackers. On January 30th, Vista will ship and the web will already be full of exploits. Too funny.
Ok ok, maybe, just maybe Microsoft did their homework on security but let's face it, their track record and writing a new OS from scratch puts Micro$oft at a disadvantage.

1 edit | .this is the final build, and here is the reason thier is no "real" boot screen as you call it is to make it boot up faster according to isniders at microsoft. Besides, this is the code that went rtm...why would they call this rtm and send it off to manufacteurs if this wasn't the final code..

2 edits | Hardly looks finished. I doubt a simple windows logo would make it take that much longer to start up. Wanna make it start up faster, omit this screen in its entirety and go to the next high res screen.
Oh well it is build 6000. And yes its no big deal, but I would of thought they'd at least have an opening screen or some kind of windows symbol on there. I figured in the beta's this was not complete because they just didn't create a screen yet. Heck if they don't intend on putting a logo there, why put the (c) Microsoft Corporation. What are they copyrighting, there's no logo or title to copyright. Also if they don't intend to put a simple windows logo, why not center the progress bar and place it in the middle? It just looks like its missing something.
It functions. In a few months I'll come back to it and see how everything works. If I really like it I'll buy it, but so far XP is good enough. Vista really needs a maturity period before I can adopt it.
