First off, let me just say that what I'm about to say includes myself.
I think it's really funny to see everyone scoff at Vista and refuse to upgrade to it. What makes it so funny is these are the same people who swore they would NEVER run/install Windows XP on their machines. "It just isn't worth it. 2000 is so much better!".
This vicious cycle will continue no doubt. A year from now we'll all be running Vista and Microsoft will, in another 2-3 years announce a new Windows and the same thing will happen. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.
I'm on the same bandwagon, remember this before trolling my post -- Weeeeeee |

For most people, yes, I agree. Rinse and repeat.
I can only comment from my perspective. I decided to switch to Linux a bit before the time when Microsoft came out with the ever-more-mandatory WGA stuff. I did not want to rinse and repeat. I persisted with Linux. And boy, am I glad I did. You won't believe how much easier and trouble free it really is, once you get past the initial embarassment of acknowledging that your computer guru status is really only knowledge of Windows, not computers in general. Once you dig in and learn however, Linux becomes much easier. And as time passes and your experience grows, you might well find that it's actually easier than Windows.
Try it, but DON'T expect it to be just like Windows. It's not, and it doesn't want or plan to be. I would not recommend the Linux route for heavy duty gamers, or those who feel they must have proprietary Microsoft technology like Active-X.
Or, ... rinse and repeat. |
