Re: Comcast of NJ II Channel Line-Up

When I flicked on my bedroom TV earlier tonight to catch the start of the Giants game on channel 4 New York, I was greeted with a marquee-type banner scrolling across the top of the screen reminding me that this week WNBC will be moving to a digital-only channel. It dawned on me that beginning the 15th I won't be able to lie in bed and watch Chuck and Sue do the 11:00 PM news anymore unless I want to pay the monthly charge for an extra digital box. That's not happening. Comcast SUCKS for removing channel 4 New York from my non-digital lineup. They don't have to do this. It's a voluntary, bonehead move on their part. Let them find another less-popular channel to eliminate if they have to, not the flagship NBC station, not MY NBC station! Another slap in the face, another reason I supported Verizon's push to win statewide TV franchise rights, another reason I plan to order FiOS when it becomes available.

You know this for a fact? Have you called either WNBC or WCAU to find out what their roles are in this? Have you spoken directly with the marketing department in your area? Until you do, you cannot assume that Comcast made this decision unilaterally.

Haven't you noticed that in the case of Mercer and Ocean county systems, it is the out of market NBC station that is moving to digital? Funny how it happens to be the same company that owns USA, Sci-Fi, Bravo, Universal HD, etc. Funny how both stations are O&Os.

Are you suggesting that the decision came down from NBC and not from Comcast? That possibility never occurred to me.

I know Cablevision serves a few NJ towns in the Philly DMA (Robbinsville, for example). If the policy we're talking about to place these stations on a digital-only tier was issued by NBC, I would think it would apply to Cablevision systems as well as Comcast systems. No?

As far as me having taken this or any other topic up with Comcast's marketing department, PLEASE give me the correct contact info as I have many things I'd love to "discuss" with them. This is only the tip of the iceberg!

When it comes time for NBC to negotiate with Cablevision, you may see the same type of deal come to fruition. You may also see the same thing happen with Cablevision's Ocean systems.

As for contacting your local marketing department, the best bet is to find the administrative number for your system in the white pages of your phone book. If you want, you can call the admin number for Comcsat of NJ (732-602-7444) and ask for the marketing department there. Someone there should be able to either answer your questions or point you in the right direction.
