I've played a few games at the local EB and was very impressed with the console and the response time with the controller. It has pretty good range as well. |

| reply to justin My son just got a wii at the local electronics shop that wanted to remain nameless. No pre order nothing , one of his friends told him they came in and him and my wife went and bought it.
I will try and get a response from him once they get home and he plays it.
Im liking it because he sounded so excited about it. Now to wait for my ps3 I ordered.
Btw does any one know anything about customs ? If I go back into the us with a ps3 do I have to pay taxes on it even if I didnt buy it in the country I am in now ? -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

3 edits | reply to justin We got one, just wanted to hold a post I could come back in and give impressions.
Edit: Okay, I finally got some sleep. I waited in line at Wal-Mart around 9:00PM and was #25 out of only 20 systems. I waited around anyways and after all the consoles were gone they let us come in and shop for games and accessories. I picked up a Wii-Mote and a classic controller. Then I drove around town to check out some other lines and the Best Buy line was 50+ people and they were only promised 45 consoles. Circuit City on the other hand only had about six people standing outside at 1:30 AM and they had 18 consoles. I decided to wait it out there. Finally around 8:00 the store manager came in and told us he would pass out vouchers at 9:00 and open a few minutes before 10 so we could come in and get them. We got the 4th voucher, and finally got inside to pick up the system. They also had fifteen copies of Zelda and I probably should have picked one up, but I passed on it. We drove home exhausted, but we still set up and played with the Wii. I love the remote, it's extremely responsive and intuitive. I don't have any games except for Wii Sports yet, and we downloaded Super Mario 64 on the virtual console. It looks and plays perfectly. It was also a breeze to get it online over the wireless network, too. Overall I'm impressed and happy. |

1 edit | reply to justin Just got my Wii set up. So far so good. I have not purchased any games yet since I will rent from Blockbuster first to ensure that I actually like them before purchase.
I am downloading my first Wii update as I write. Wireless connection was a breeze. I am using a Dlink DI-514 router. I entered my WEP key and the Wii was able to connect with no issues.
Only issue I had at EB Games was that the store only received a single spare Wiimote. So I must wait for my second controller. And a single 2000 point card. EB Games actually opened their doors at 1015 to allow preorders to purchase their systems.
As I type, the second Wii update is incoming. -- We were perfect when we started I've been wondering where we've gone |

| reply to justin Got mine this morning at Target (got there 5 minutes before they opened). Wii Sports is fun so far but I only tried tennis and bowling. I wish you had more control of your character in tennis. I also just started playing Zelda. Haven't gone online yet, but will later on today.
The controller is great! Much more responsive then I thought it would be. I also like having 2 separate pieces for each hand. This allows you to hold your hands at a comfortable distance apart from each other instead of being cramped together holding a small controller. Much more nature feeling.
So far I have 3 complaints. First off, the nun-chucks seem to be in short supply. The Target I was at sold out of them before I got to the electronics department (they only let 2 people back there at a time and I was #38 in line). They had plenty of remotes though. I stopped at a handful of other stores afterwards and the same thing, no nun-chucks but lots of remotes. You would think they would have shipped them 1 to 1 (or even packaged them together). I hope I can get a few more before having the family over this next Thursday for Thanksgiving.
No one got in the s-video or component cables yet. So I'm stuck with a temporary setup until they come in.
Wii Sports comes in a cheap cardboard sleeve. Would it have cost them that much more to package the game in a standard Wii white DVD case with inserts? -- Look now to what is not, to the overwhelming depths between the stars; a darker geometry, the vast majority of all space and time. | reply to justin I got the Wii last night at Walmart's midnight launch. Wii sports is alot of fun, especially the bowling and tennis. My gf and I were sweating it out this morning. Boxing controls were kinda iffy but its still pretty fun. The internet connection was easy to setup. I got it running in about 5 minutes and as soon as it connected, it did 2 system updates. The second one added the Wii Shop Channel.
Haven't had a chance to play Zelda yet, but the gf and I are loving the system and its ease of use so far. |

| reply to justin Picked mine up this morning, along with Red Steel. I wanted Zelda but they were out, and i also couldn't get a second controller ($60 a pop according to the manager). I had a little trouble setting up the wireless connection, since I have a static IP, hidden SSID, and WEP (yes, i know...but I also have a SA TiVo series2 which doesn't support WPA). The Wii supports WEP, WPA, WPA2 if anyone wants to know. Otherwise, it's really easy to set up. I love the controller. It is sooo easy to figure out. Wii sports is lots of fun, but it is tiring. within 20 minutes I was huffin' and puffin' playing boxing and tennis. granted i'm a little out of shape, but I can still run a mile but my arm was killin me. lol red steel is a good FPS game, but I don't like the way the menu is setup before you start the game. I also don't like the little storyline in the beginning. Just let me start shooting people dammit! overall, i think Nintendo did a very good job. This could very well be the must have xmas present of the season. |

| reply to justin Picked up 2 Wii's this morning. Also purchased Zelda and Madden 07. Got an extra nunchuck controller/remote unit as well. Me and the wife were playing the sports for awhile. It is easy to setup and the controls are easy after some getting used to. Of course I haven't done a whole lot of playing as I am exhausted. Stayed up all night thinking Amazon was going to release some. Found out otherwise, so I went to Best Buy and Circuit City and there was no wait and I received one of the last units at both stores. Best Buy had quite a bit of accessories but Circuit City had none. Best Buy also had all the games that have been released. I was suprised it wasn't sold out. |

| reply to justin Just picked up our Wii this morning at the Sam's Club about 1 mile from our house. We scouted a few stores and talked to the managers to find out how many units were available and decided Sam's Club was the best choice. It turns out I was right. We got to Sam's Club about 5 hours before they opened (around 5:00 AM). The manager arrived around 6:00 AM and asked if we wanted to sit inside because it was very cold outside. He let us into the store and we just sat inside where it was nice and warm for about another 1 hour, manager then returned and gave us a voucher for our 2 systems. They only had 5 units available but had no line so we got what we needed . I feel kind of bad for the 50+ people literally camping outside of Best Buy (tents and all) and the Best Buy only had 16 units available.
Anhow the Wii has been great so far. We've been playing RedSteel and Zelda quite a bit. I haven't noticed bad response time on either of the games as of yet. Everything seems pretty quick and responsive. Connected to my wireless fairly painlessly, of course entering the 63 key password took quite a long time .
The controller was, to my surprise, very comfortable and did not take long to get used to at all. It still feels a little weird doing motions etc but is definitely worth it. It really helps you feel like you're part of the game and not just pushing buttons. Heck it might even help me lose some weight . If you play the boxing game on the little sports disk, well that can get ya really swinging. I must say I'm very happy with it so far.
Getting the Wii was definitely worth the trip and even a 5 hour wait. Not only can we play our Gamecube and Wii games on it we can get old NES and SNES etc titles. I think I'll have a blast with this for a long time to come. -- HABYA HABYA HABYA TEAR DOWN THE HEM STALKS EAT UP THE OLD MAN AND WOMAN AND CARRY OFF THE LITTLE GIRL MAY YOU DIE ALONE |

| reply to justin Picked up my Wii this afternoon at EB. I barely got the words "I'm here to pick up my Wii" out of my mouth when someone offered me $500 for it...I laughed and declined My Eb had no games I wanted left, so I've been playing Wii sports. Whomever said its a workout wasn't kidding...the boxing had me sweating! I just wish my preordered points card would've come in All in all im very happy with it and its really FUN. Only got one system update, while trying to do the second one it shot me an error about the WiiConnect24 service...I'm too tired to figure it out now though. |

1 edit | reply to justin Connected to my wireless but cannot receive any update - WTF is wrong with Nintendo or with my Wii? Router logs are filled with "Received Deauthentication"... sounds like my old Dell laptop's PoS Intel 2200-based wireless problems...

| reply to justin Observations:
1. Wii Sports is very fun. So far, I like bowling the most. It's a little bit too easy, but competition is still fun.
2. In the videos that I've seen, I thought the flailing motions that people did were huge exaggerations of what is necessary, but they are sometimes needed (like when bowling). We might be able to get away with doing a lot less, but I don't mind the cheesiness at this point.
3. I've only played on a really old CRT, so haven't gotten the full experience. It is extremely difficult to see some enemies in Red Steel who are shooting at me. Sword fights are easy, but still pretty damn cool. Other movements/actions still feel awkward. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get used to it. The Wii gun controller that's coming out might be pretty awesome.
4. Zelda: I played for an hour-and-a-half and didn't really get anything done. Minor spoiler: I think I need to find a bottle, so I can hold some bait, so I can catch a fish, so I can save a ladies cat, so I can buy a slingshot, but I can't find a bottle and am not really even sure if it's necessary, yet. I have extremely high hopes for this game. One gripe that I've had since the beginning is that I would have rather them made the graphics a little more cartoony. If the hardware won't let it look realistic, don't try (like Final Fantasy VII vs FF VIII). Of course, the devs were going into a more adult-like direction with this game. We'll see how that turns out.
Overall, I'm impressed. I can see how this could become popular among the non-hardcore gaming crowd. Someone could buy the system with a few party games and get tons of entertainment for a long time. |
