turdhat join:2001-09-30 Louisville, KY | Anyone still using a 3com sharkfin and if so what speeds ? With the new 10 meg down I am sad to say that I am getting about 3.5 down to different speed tests however I have seen 7 down to insights on network test. Could some of you sharkfin owners shed some light on what your getting ? |

I didn't save the speed test but I think it was roughly 4.7 mbps opposed to 9.7 mbps down with a new modem. My ethernet port was shorting out and I had already bought a new modem to replace it but even with the bad port, I was seeing close to 4 down just days before my area was upgraded.
I think to see maximum downloads, you'll probably need to toss that shark fin and go with a newer modem.

"Customers who have modems from Insight that won't allow the faster speeds can contact the company's customer service department and exchange their modems for newer equipment."

 | That looks cool! |

 | reply to turdhat I'm using a Sharkfin that they sold me back about 5 years ago when I first got my @Home account... I'm guessing it's time for me to upgrade to a new modem because, despite the supposed speed upgrade, this is about par for the course for what I generally get:

The specs on the box (yes, I actually still have the box) say "burst data rates to 38 Mbps downstream" but also says "typical user downstream speeds up to 3 Mbps". So do these things max out at 3 Mbps or what? |
