jfoj join:2005-05-06 Mclean, VA | [TV] FIOS TV Price Increases as of 1/14/07!! Gee, price increase already!! So almost everything has at least a $0.04 price increase at a minimum. Almost everything now ends in $0.99, no more $0.95!!!!!
Premier from $39.95 to $42.99 Most other packages up between $1.00 and $1.04. Standard STB from $3.95 to $4.99, others only increase $ 0.04
But Adult VOD appears to have the highest rate hike from $11.95 to $14.99, wow this is a real ball buster!
But at least Verizon was considerate and dropped site visit costs from $50.00 to $49.99.

 | Are they really getting that overconfident?
The whole reason to SWITCH to Verizon was the hope that we WOULDN'T get price hikes regularly like Cablevision. |

Well for us in NJ, its isn't a price hike, that's the STARTING POINT (as filed with the NJ BPU). bummer. 39.95 for TV was looking great! |

 | reply to jfoj Anyone else get a survey from Verizon with questions about raising the cost of "FiOS TV Premier"? The survey asked about what services I had and which ones I would keep if they raised the cost of the Premier package to $42.99/month. I guess it would not be to bad if the questions about having a discount to go along with it. $5 off a month if you get two additional features (DVR, additional box, HD programing package, movie package, sports package, etc). Or $7 off a month if you order 3 additional services.
Overall the survey seemed very poorly written and very confusing. I guess Verizon knows who to hire to make things confusing for us. I should be getting a $10 check for taking the survey though.
Here is a screen shot from the survey. Read the HD package description. »static.flickr.com/107/299807459_···83_o.jpg
I guess Verizon is like every other cable company and going to raise prices constantly. |

jfoj join:2005-05-06 Mclean, VA | reply to jammmin Received a direct mail letter regarding FIOS service offerings.
Should clarify this a bit with a statement in the letter - "But, as a valued FIOS TV customer you will continue to enjoy your existing FIOS TV services at the same great price you've always paid! And, we will extend current pricing to any services you add to your account from now to 1/13/07."
The price sheet starts out with this statement - "Rates Effective 1/14/07, See below for more information regarding rate adjustments in your area. Please note that the changes apply only to new customers and those who make changes to their service after 1/14/07."
Happy Valentines Day!
What this really means is it is just a matter of time, probably within a year that original prices will increase for all of use.

NOCManMacChatterPremium join:2004-09-30 Colorado Springs, CO | reply to jfoj I dont really consider the .04 cent increase a problem. I think it's more of a rounding out of prices for asthetic purposes. Most anywhere everything is 39.99 and whatnot. They probably conducted some survey that showed people liked to see .99 at the end of a price vs .95 -- FIOS chat »www.fioschat.com MacChatter »www.macchatter.com |

Not that it matters to me since I'm in NJ and can't get it at any cost and the announced pricing was already the increased cost. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

 | reply to jfoj Okay, so I take "new subscribers" would those that subscribe to the service on or after Jan 07. I'm here in Bowie and my start date was Aug 06. One of the reasons I left COMCAST for Direct Tv was to avoid the continual rate increases. I might go back Directv. |

 | reply to TurtleFan Ahh, OK . Disappointing, but OK . |

Just make it $40 instead of $39.95. But I guess I shouldn't complain about saving 60 cents a year.
I assumed the prices would go up when I subscribed. And I'm sure DirecTV, Dish, etc. will continue to raise their prices too so the savings will probably remain about the same dollar wise. |

 | reply to jfoj Already increasing the prices. That gives me one more reason not to trust these companies. When I went to the town meeting in support of FIOS TV , I was assured that there will not be price increases at least for a year( i was naive). I will stick with Comcast as a protest. Currently I am getting free HBO + DVR with Comcast with better customer support and VOD. |

jammmin join:2000-12-14 Upper Marlboro, MD | reply to jfoj I don't think it was a smart idea on Verizon part to have a price increase at this time.
FIOS TV is still in its infancy(little over a year old). They should have waitedg until the service was at least two years old where its more robust in terms of its offerings and buildout.
Right now, FIOS TV offerings look very similar to what cable TV and satellite companies offer.
I think I read an article sometime ago with an interview with a Verizon rep who said that in the long run, Verizon does not plan to compete on price necessarily, but however will compete and packages and services offered.
Even with this increase, FIOS TV prices will be lower than cable but on par I think with Dish and Directv. In the long run, Verizon hopes to offer more channels, more VOD, etc than any other provider since it will not be constrained by capacity on its fiber optic network. |

Better now, at the same time they're adding all the sports channels that people have said they would require to switch, than at some time when rising costs couldn't be justified. Dealing with the programing divisions of the cable companies may have been more costly, with their current subscriber count, than expected.
Be interesting to see what the investors think about it, since the first we heard it was after the close on Friday. Cablevision raised it's TV rates 1.1%, also on Friday. |

 | reply to jfoj I was thinking about this the other day.
Would the future of TV eventually be Video on Demand?
I can't watch a live TV show now a days or a radio program, since I've gotten so damned used to commercial free radio and Commercial Fast Forwarding DVR's...
Considering I don't watch many TV shows, I'd much rather buy a whole season at a DVD Set price tag, watch it through the DVR and be done with it. With the way these cable companies are going, how high will prices get until people stop subscribing and no one is watching? |
|
 | reply to jfoj every other tv provider raises their rates each year, why would verizon be any different? Dish network should be raising theirs in february too. the premier package for $43 is still a hell of alot cheaper than my digital cable through adelphia(about $55 for same channels), the STB box fee is still less($6.95 through adelphia) |
|
 | reply to jfoj That's what happens when Verizon recently added a whole bunch of channels from Cablevision. They cost $$$, more so then most. |
