| Our new logo Here is our new logo. Incorporates three logos, one from of a UNIX O/S, Linux's TUX, and from a BSD family (FreeBSD).
I liked Zuhaib's logo but because users thought the Java mascot was bugging them I replaced the Java mascot with the Sun Solaris logo.
Also liked nil's idea of [unix@dslreports:~]$ so I placed that in as well.
Hope you all like it. Now for some feedback before it's placed up top. -- "If there's something I don't know, give me time and I will try my best to learn it." [text was edited by author 2001-11-04 22:36:42] |

| reply to howe81 It would look better w/o the shell prompt in my opinion.. the two images don't mix well. ..or if the shell prompt was on the bottom.. [text was edited by author 2001-11-05 00:26:55] |

Seems like when it's reduced down to size, the prompt is unreadable. I had never thought of that. -- "If there's something I don't know, give me time and I will try my best to learn it." |

I agree, I use FreeBSD, and don't like the fact that Linux gets ALL the glory, while BSD's sit on the sidelines, If you could use a higher res BSD daemon, that would be great, not that it REALLY matters, but I'd like to see Baestie in as much glory as Tux.....
The Sun logo, that's cool, but I'm impartial to it, so I could care less, it's not free so it can be blurry..... (: just my two cents.....

Of course you can change it... my tcsh prompt gives the absolute path. The default trailing character is just different for the two shells.

I agree with that, and I didn't mean for my comment to be seen as flame, I'm sorry if it seemed that way, I was just saying that I wish that MY favorite free software would be shown in as high res as yours..... I totally feel that Tux should be in front because he's more known than either of the other two logos, I'd be wanting the BSD daemon to be in as high res as possible no matter which they used (Free, Open, Pico, Net, or Darwin as each has a slightly different look to the daemon), There will be a day when FreeBSD and Linux are equal in more ways other than price, and at that point they should be shown stomping on my home state in a crap town called redmond, but for now, Tux can do the visual part for now, till BSD grows to be as much of a contender as Linux......
Again, I'm sorry if I sounded like I was flaming.... We're in this fight (against M$) together......

I didn't what you said as flame, I was actually in awe of the way you spun my initial comment from somthing about the fuzziness of the BSD deamon, to the fuzziness of peoples perspectives of the BSD deamon. I found that a pretty intellegent comment, not a flame. I think all of us here on the Unix forum saw it the same way, not as a flame but as an interesting comment. -- "Why doesn't Lynx display TrueType fonts?" |

It's because I had small Solaris and FreeBSD logos to work with. If you could find a larger and clearer logo, post/attach it here please.
I couldn't find any larger logo so I had to use the one on the FreeBSD site. Same with the Sun Solaris. But with the Linux one, here was the logo that I used. So I had to shrink this a bit, whilst enlarging the Solaris and FreeBSD.
OK, I'm no good with graphics but I can ask people in Avatar Help to help us. -- "If there's something I don't know, give me time and I will try my best to learn it." |
