Constant sync loss for nearly 2 weeks.

Since last Thursday (11/9 - the night of a rather bad thunderstorm, I might add..), I have been getting disconnected repeatedly, with no fix in sight. The Embarq techs and I have tried the following:

1) Upgrade firmware to Zyxel 660-R.
2) Replace chewed wire (squirrels) going from my telco box up into my house.
3) Replace splitter box in the telco box.
4) Replace my ADSL modem ALTOGETHER, upgrade firmware.
5) "Intensive monitoring of my line for 24-48 hours"

Basically, I've been getting disconnected about every.. 60 seconds. Losing sync. The modem is fine, as the replacement modem was fine as well. The DSL light just cuts off, I get nothing for about 15-20 seconds (or up to an hour) and voila, back online for another sixty seconds.

The tech has been out here four out of the five working days this week, trying all of the above, to no avail, as well as trying things on his end and at the CO.

Another appointment is scheduled for tomorrow - as for what they're going to do, I haven't the foggiest. They've certainly tried everything to prove that it's something in MY house, rather than admit that it's on their end.

For my own proof and curiosity, I joined the Embarq line monitoring group: »/testhistory?view=18 - I'm down on the bottom. Does that seem normal to you for the last 48 hours?

I'm basically at my wits' end, and maybe hoping that some of you might have some ideas as to what the hell could be causing this since neither I, nor Embarq (apparently) know.

Thanks.

(and trying to successfully post this was hell in itself)

edit: just proved it's not the wiring INSIDE my house. went out to my box with the modem and plugged it in - still got the sync loss. so it's either a) the box itself or b) anything outside of my house.

Can you post your line readings for your modem? Need values for things like noise margin downstream/upstream, output power downstream/upstream.

If you don't know how to get these readings, you can access them by logging on to your modem. The IP is 192.168.2.1. Then look under the "Diagnostics" menu.

That was the first thing I was thinking.

so according to the tech who worked on it pretty much all day, the DSLAM i was on was causing problems. they've either replaced or fixed it - and i'm still having the same problem (though i can't tell right now considering the problem is incredibly random and infuriating - this could be one of the "good" times of my service).

(this is a 6mb/768k line)

Your output power levels are very low. You could have a problem with your modem. Do you have another one you could switch with?

[edit]nevermind... you say you have replaced your modem. Maybe you could switch between the two and see which one gives you a higher number. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

well. strangely enough, after going through seven calls to florida's call center, the tech coming to my house five times out of eight days, one talk with the field supervisor downtown that said he did "something" and to look for my line dropping again (and if so, call the tech on his cell number) - it's seems fixed.

i almost don't want to jinx it. it's been fantastic all day, even through this windy thunderstorm (go figure, problems start with a thunderstorm, and end on a thunderstorm..)

according to the monitor for the last few hours i've had a major spike in ping, but.. hopefully that will clear up.

strange, strange days..

edit 2: seems i'm running at half speed. what was 5000/512 is now ~2000/200.

i'm not sure if it's the thunderstorm that's going on overhead (and will be til thanksgiving) or if DSL is affected in that way, but maybe that's how they fixed it. drop me down so it's less unstable?

Could be... I guess you couldn't maintain synch at the speeds you were running. Was it always like that or did you recently upgrade service and start having problems?

nope. they put me at 5mb at the beginning of september when they first turned it on, and it was only from november 9th on that i had any problem with this connection.

Is it still running good?
If so my guess is they found a bad port or card in the DSLAM.

it's.. running. constant, so i should be thankful, but my speed still isn't what it used to be. it's inching back up to 5mb/700, and like i said, maybe it's the thunderstorms we had recently.

I just ran across a little piece of information about North Carolina that may help ease the pain.

Two of the nation's largest telecommunications companies on Monday announced major technological upgrades for their North Carolina networks.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) said it spent $51 million across the state during the third quarter alone to boost coverage and network capacity for customers.
