Out longer...

obviously EVDO is ahead it's been out much long than WCDMA. Most of the GSM providers are just now rolling out their flavors of 3G I know Cingular is starting to deploy UTMS and HSPDA in several areas. I purchased the new Samsung A707 (SYNC) and my speeds when connecting to my laptop have greatly increased. I normally get 1.0/330 for speeds and the ping times are in the 200ms range. I can't really compare it to EVDO because neither Sprint or Verizon offer wireless service in my area.

Exactly. And let's not forget to mention that Cingular's equipment is already capable to 3.6MB/s (Class 6 HSDPA) while EVDO is just upgrading their network to match Cingular's stuff: higher uplink bandwidth though now it seems EV-DO Rev A will have lower latency than Cingular's HSDPA. As soon as Cingular will be able to make sure your packets hit the internet right after your tower latency will be in reasonable level.
My latency is pretty high here in NYC, 4-500ms but I see great downspeed wherever I can get UMTS signal.

The issue that keeps me away is the strict TOS and price. Price is high enough to keep many away, but add in the TOS, and I won't touch that for my business (VPN/SSH/X-11/Rdesktop). I'd be kicked off in the 1st week. Transferred 4GB in one afternoon last week alone.

Personally, I'd take UMTS for its GSM abilities (seemless roaming, SIM's, etc), however, Cingular does not offer UMTS in Los Angeles, and doesn't plan to until ~ July 2007.

I'm not aware of anything like that at Cingular. I use RDP and SSH, SkypeOut all the time and never had any problem.

Price is very reasonable, I think, unlimited for $20/month.

Where did you hear that? AFAIK they will have most of the US cities covered by next Summer.

Capability vs Availability are 2 VERY BIG different things. My Ethernet card in my pc has the ability of 100mbps but that doesn't do me much good if my cable company only offers 6. This 3.6 stuff is fine for the lab but in the real world, the numbers by Sprint and others don't always match whats really going on. Think we call that marketing? As experience shows it's ugly head, each tower has a different throughput. I've seen stats from Sprint and Verizon. I doubt Cingular and/or anyone else is consistent in this area.
