[DW7000] Direcway 4000/6000/7000/7000s and now, Direcway no more

Well folks been a long time. Been with Direcway since the old beta days of 4000 return one way. But after nearly a year of poor performance I had to find something else.

Had slow downs and poor browseing with my 7000 and .7xdish. So after the past few months(and an upgrade to 1m dish, 7000s modem, larger plan, and two reinstalls) i just kept having the same old problems. I mostly do non web things, World of warcraft and download games from xbox live. So got a call from a stateside guy who basicly told me that they are moving more and more toward a web/email only services and their service supports other things as a side note. The upstream proxy overloads are due to increased customer load and their keeping pace etc. I was also told that despite the thousands i have spent in the past few months, i was under a new contract and 2 years is what it was. Well without hammering them to hard, between me them and my credit card company we worked that fairly easy. While this was going on I grasp at one last straw. Alltel EVDOx1 with a router.

That was a job too, I live out of their "Coverage Area" by about 20 miles. So i got the 15 day return thing on my side and got the card, bought an external antenna, mountd it outside on a pole..and bam..worked..not well(better than direcway ever did). So now i am 1.5months into EVDO, and have got a 3watt signal booster and am at the best internet that I have ever had at this location. Speeds are around 200k, not the best, but it is always on, always works, and ping is about 200ms,350ms to the worse.(all for $50 less than direcway)

Thank you all for you years of fellowship in the direcway camp, I wish you luck, I hope if you stay with Direcway they do good by you, and if you find something else it is faster, better, and cheaper if possible lol.

Take care and good luck!
Mike

Good luck Mike. I found out that I'm in Verizon's EVDO footprint the other day. Thinking about doing the same thing. What was your total expense to get everything up and running?

Card from Alltel $ 99
Monthly Service $ 59(unlimited)
*No PtP file sharing allowed/No Servers Allowed*

External House Mount Antenna $ 50
20' Loss Ext. Cable for Antenna $ 20
Signal Booster 3watt/booster $199
EVDO Router $299
3 sections of pipe/4x4/quickcrete $ 50

I wont total this, because only you know what you need of it. But as you can see it still a bargain form the $1,200 that I spent to upgrade my Direcway to larger dish and so forth for it not to work.

Until just a few days ago i was on a old laptap with ICS running on windows XP. I just chagned over to a KRX1 Router made by the same people who made my card. It was $299. It seems to increase ping over ICS by about 20ms..but when loaded with more than one PC getting data, it mantains it's speed of around 200k instead of dropping way back.

Just wondering about your setup also. You have a PCMCIA card with a RX connector on it for your external areal?

And I was wondering, why use ICS with a router?

Curious, when you say..

"*No PtP file sharing allowed/No Servers Allowed*"

What restrictions do they have in regards to downloads. Is downloading from newsgroups allowed? Is there a FAP limit?

What about gaming?

Thanks!

i had ics and just got router.

The ptp file share is something "scan" for i was told and is a breach of their use agreement. There are no FAP policies just the dont breach PtP and you are not to run any server.

I play games on mine alot, and havnt had any problems and support even helped me get somethings changed so i got better ping for CoD3.

As for the antenna i ordered it off line from ~some place?~ and got a huge wilson the wire and the adapaters to make it work with my screw in BNC? that the three watt kit needs.
