Anyone else in the Atlanta area having speed issues? My modem connection stays live but I have been having speed issues starting this afternoon (11/20/2006). Some sites are fast and others are slow or non-responsive.
Anyone else,

| reply to jpboss Tests are ok Download Speed: 8019 kbps (1002.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 711 kbps (88.9 KB/sec transfer rate) and downloading large files is too, but I am having other issues. I have to refresh a lot... if I don't I often don't get the whole page.
Overall responsiveness just isn't there anymore. This all started a little less than 2 weeks ago. Service was perfect prior to that.
There was supposedly something locally wrong, but I don't know anymore as that was reported to have been fixed and my issues that started at that time still persist.

| Yes, I'm back to normal now. I was watching tv last night and noticed that the digital channels were going out. Later on in the night (like about 3:30am) they were back. Not sure of the exact time on that, but they did come back and at the same time my internet connection really snapped back up to normal.
Hopefully whatever the trouble was (or the upgrade) it's cleared up by now. |

@comcast.net | Well, Comcast's network is not overloaded in this part of Atlanta, Dunwoody-Chamblee, where I have been getting consistent speeds and no connection problems. |

| I'm in chamblee (shallowford/dresden) and have had horrible connectivity for a couple of weeks. Began when the rain/storms that moved through. The night of those storms, we lost both hsi and digital cable. Modem cable light would not even flash that night upon reboot. Both were restored next morning but we have had more tv glitches (video and sound) and intermittent hsi outages since.
Initially, my TX levels were high. That seems to have been resolved but the modem is often losing sync (flashing cable light) or I have very bad packet loss when going off-net. My over-the-top voip (voicepulse) is nearly un-usable. On the occasions where I get dialtone, the other party says there is a great deal of breakup.
On one call, comcast tech support noticed my entire area was having trouble and escalated. On another call, they verified a high packet loss inbound and said it was related to an open outage ticket. That was days ago.
One tech came out initially (the day after the storms) but everything was working (seemingly) when he arrived and he said everything was fine from the pole/plant. So nothing was looked at inside the house.
At this point, I have tried removing the splitter. I have replaced the firewall/router. I'm considering trying a new modem also. After that, if it's not fixed/reliable, I'll have to find a better service. Every year, I have 3-4 weeks of downtime with comcast and it's frustrating.

| reply to steelhead78 My apologies for the delay on getting back to you. I'm having to post this from the local coffee house. My modem is a Terayon tj715x. I considered picking up a SB5120 at best buy but he comcast tech support individual indicated that the issue is not my modem (my assumption is based on what they were seeing elsewhere in my area) Here is the info from the diagnostics:

Dr. Modem has examined your modem. Dr. Modem's Diagnosis: # The modem has sent a request for an IP address and has received no response or an invalid response.
Dr. Modem's Prescription: # Verify that the modem has been provisioned. # Verify that the DHCP server is running and is accessible.
The following were taken within a few minutes of each other. HSI has been out all evening with only brief working (if thats what they call it) periods this afternoon. The modem is still in a ranging state with no sync. Upon some reboots it will show a solid cable light eventually but I still cannot get a public IP address:

The soonest they could get a line tech to look into it is Wednesday. (aint that comcastic!) Perhaps if I had digial phone service through Comcast that would take priority.
It should be noted that about 10 minutes or so into the ranging process, I get to step 3 (modem is initializing). Soon after, the webserver for the modem diagnostics becomes unresponsive; however, I still get a response from the IP...

The cable light continues to flash.. Eventually, it will go solid but I still won't be able to get an ip. Or at some point, I'll get an IP and have packet loss. It seems that I'm more likely to get back online (with packet loss) during the day. |

Big_D Premium join:2003-06-02 Augusta, GA | Ya, those stats definitely show your modem locked in on the RX (signal is on the weak side) and ranging on the TX. You really need to get another tech out there. -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |

@cox.net
| For nearly two weeks I've been told there are known issues in the area and that it is not just me. They claim that if they open any new work orders, it would cancel the exiting trouble tickets?? The last tech who came inside and worked on the signal's (~1 - 1.5 years ago) was not able to make RX any better than -11'ish. Basically, the wire from the pole (newly run less than 3 years ago) goes into the crawl-space and has a single barrel connector (replaced by tech) to a new piece of coax. That goes into a splitter 20 feet away -- that distributes to television and modem. Tech's equipment showed splitter was fine with only expected difference between signal in each configuration. I'd love to have optimal levels, but I've no idea how to make that happen myself. Removing splitter from equation does not seem to help my current issues at all.
Apparently, there is a difference between the individuals they send to your house and the line maintenance techs. I *believe* they scheduled line techs to look into it. |
