| reply to cjsmith Okay so i did some quick testing with it, i didn't notice any memory problems, but i didn't check it either
phishing protection was nice, it detected all the ones i tested from the phishing forum.......NOW FOR THE CRAP
It edited my IE settings itself without warning, so that i could not download files that i clicked on........i tried testing it's virus protection against zcodec.com, which is a zlob variant, it wouldn't let me download, said my security settings preventing it, HORSESHIT
well sadly that was enough for me messing with my settings without letting me know, so i uninstalled it, and my settings were still messed up, i actually did a restore to factory settings in IE7 to fix it
also this software uses ADS on the top of it's program, and whats REALLY annoying, is the ads stay on top of any other program running, for instance i had the program open, and an IE window open, and the AD still overtook the IE window, IE if any part of the IE window was touching the AD, it would show over the top of IE
now i realize i am by no means no expert but those two things alone piss me off, This software is a joke, stick to AVG, Avast, or zonealarm for free stuff, this software is a joke to say the least
please save yourself and do not install this software :P |

Kayrac Premium join:2001-09-29 Rochester, NH | reply to cjsmith PS after reinstalling kaspersky, the antispam was messed up, i ran the KIS removal tool, and reinstalled again and all is fine, not sure if that was apart of the cyberdefender problem, but never even seen that happen before, so it could have been |

| reply to cjsmith Installation went off without a hitch. Runs as an icon in the system tray, using 3,364K of memory when it's just monitoring. While I had it doing a virus scan it was using 25,000K. Look for it as cdasb6.exe in your processes list. Okay right now it just dropped to a 1,400K footprint.
It is adware but the adds can be removed by registering and paying for it. And at $11.90 it isn't going to break anyones bank. In my opinion you get a lot for that $11.90.
I ran the spyware engine and it found 44 items in 8 categories. It ranked them all from high risk down to negligible risk. It gives you the option to delete the bugs, or quarantine them. If quarantined, you can do a restore if you find you need to.
All updates are handled automatically. And will setup to do its thing on a schedule. It has an easy to look at interface. And you can look at each part of the engine separately.
I don't see any problems with it. It did make some changes during installation. But none that caused any problems. Tea Timer let me know about each one as it happened, and I didn't see anything that wasn't expected with the nature of the install. It is what it is you know.
I'm running XP Home with Windows OneCare and Windows Defender. Neither of them complained about the new package. All the changes and installations were presented to me by Windows Defender with the default of allow. So no conflicts with them.
That's about all I can think of right now. |

| reply to clocks11 said by clocks11 :I am a little confused as to if this includes a firewall or not. It does not include a firewall. It does monitor all the firewalls that you have installed on your system and tells you their status. You can activate and deactivate either one from one simple control panel.
I am running Windows OneCare, so it shows me Windows native firewall, which is turned off by OneCare, and the OneCare firewall. Telling me that OneCare is the one active. |

| reply to cjsmith I installed it, but i didn't allow it to update or communicate out. Not sure how secure the PW feature is ?
AntiVir detects via Heuristics - UWHOOK32.DLL - as in my screenie. This i presume is because it's used for intercepting/monitoring etc, or at least capable of doing so !
SUPERAntiSpyware found a number of things, see what and also excerpts from the EULA in my Zip.
It not only communicates from our PC's to their server and back, but it " appears " as if our PC's are being used to distribute " data " between each other users PC's too ! Is this to either save on their bandwith, and/or to distribute new detections PC's find ? It if it's the latter, then these could be FP's which havn't been checked, which could be disasterous if true ! I don't know if that is the reason, what else could it be for ?
At least they tell you it serves up Advertising in the Free version, and what to expect if you install it, even if you have to manually plough through the EULA, which i presume not many people will ?
Found these in my FW Logs -
Destination DNS feeds.weselltraffic.com - gets a blank page except for Boo = »www.weselltraffic.com/main.html
In their www source code is - clicktracks.com = web analytics
Someone tested it on a Russian version of XP it -
Recognized explorer - explorer.exe - as a spy and deleted it. Found a backdoor in a file - system32 \route.exe - a system component, and coolwebsearch in a file - system32 \telnet.exe - all FP's !
Now the vast majority oe people won't be running those OS's, but still !
Anyways apart from all that, the App is ok looking and very easy to setup etc, so most people should be able to use it.
I've disabled the Toolbar in IE Options, and also - cdinstx.exe - of which there are 3 copies in 2 locations, 1 is a different file size.

| reply to SpannerITWks Thanks for this informative post. I think they may be onto something here. We'll see how it pans out over time. What do I mean?
I have always assumed that the creators of the programs that keep our systems clean, Spybot, NAV, etc... do so by going and finding the problems for us. Then write a fix and send it out to all of us. Well we're at the mercy of their timetable that way.
The bugs that I get, CD sends to itself after cleaning, and it becomes the material for them to write a fix for. Then that goes out to everyone. This essentially makes it distributed computing. Microsoft hinted at this with their Windows Defender. I'm not sure what I expected to happen after checking the advanced box in their Microsoft Spynet membership screen. But this like what CD is doing is real close to what I thought, at the very least, would happen with Defender. But I haven't heard a peep out of anyone in that membership.
It seems to me that if CD can pull this off in a secure way, with no cross pollinization between systems, then they've taken the whole thing to a higher level. |

| reply to cjsmith Well I uninstalled it. Several reasons, but omitted for brevity. The main thing is, the way they keep discribing the way their network is setup, and works, sounds a lot like peer2peer. They say it's secure... against who?!
I'm just not that comfortable with a setup like that. |

Thanx !
I uninstalled it several days ago. One of my concenrns was the inter communication between users etc too. It sounded like P2P to me as well !
The " security " or not is also a further very Real concern, and precisely what data would be exchanged etc, and what safeguards etc are in place ?
I notice no official spokesperson has posted !
