The d-link "disconnect" problem for this modem was well known a few years ago in gaming circles as it was blamed for many unhappy Battlefield and World of Warcraft players as well as p2p users. The problem appeared to be related a very fast power cycle at random times. It would be very hard to see unless you are logging events. I called dlink and they sent me a new one without any debate giving me the impression they were getting a lot of similar calls. I have since used a belkin router and now an apple without any "disconnects" whatsoever. Furthermore, if Comcast were doing such things I think the smarty pants net guys would know by now. The OP is paranoid. Maybe he doesn't want to get busted for downloading "Bosom Buddies" re-runs? |

I also call BS. I have run p2p when on Comcast (before
we were switched over to TWC/RoadRunner), and I never
got disconnected while using p2p, nor did I have my
traffic throttled.
BT is one of more connection-intensive p2p apps out
there, and can easily overload network equipment, which
could make it look like they were disconnecting you.
But Comcast will pass on DMCA notices that they
receive from copyright holders, so watch what you
share - and BT is currently the main network that
their enforcers are trolling through looking for
infringement.

My D-Link DI-704 was rock solid. It ended up being replaced by a wireless router. Every Belkin router (or wifi card) I've tried has been nothing but trouble. (But I agree, newer DLINk routers have cause me nothing but trouble)
I've had the same basic problem as the OP with Road Runner lately, only it's the cable modem that reboots every few minutes when running Azureus. Haven't had much time to troubleshoot and since my DSL has sort of taken over as my primary connection, it hasn't been that big a deal. |

I have a DI624 that I was warned would constantly reboot and that it couldn't handle 4mbps or higher... Riiiiight!
Has never rebooted, and I get a wee bit more than 4mbps through it!

A frozen D-link because of p2p or gaming is not uncommon.
I had to try three routers before landing on one that wouldn't choke. I have yet to hear of comcast monitoring the traffic on their network in any way that affects the end user. |

my belkin pre-n does suck at p2p. i ended up flashing it to the linksys firmware. as long as i don't open too many connections, it works much better.

never in my downloading life have I EVER hit my lines potential, let alone say 2 megs. 6 meg connection here.
I gaurantee they are throttling p2p apps. Soon as I go over to my brothers house, start up Azureus, VERIZON's speeds climb to 500kb- 2 megs during DL's. Mine on the other hand at home barely hit 100kb.
No spyware/malware BS. My shits Fort Knox, nothings using my connection wihtout my OK (you get the drift).
