What's your preferred free antivirus software?

What's your preferred free antivirus software?

I've always used Symantec or McAfee, but I think it's about time to start using some free antivirus. Or is it not as good as the pay stuff?

I use free ZoneLabs, Spyware Blaster, Ad-Aware, and use gmail that blocks spam for free, so what's your favorite free antivirus?

I used to use AVG, but when I switched to x64, Avast was the first to come out with 64 bit support, so now I am using their stuff.

Avast for over 4 years here on 4 different computers and never had a virus infection on any of them since installing Avast.

Wife's computer used to run Norton and had 3 different infections with Norton running with "up to date" virus definitions.

I really like the fact that Avast updates the virus defs so often.

I've used, tried and tested quite a number of AV's. Over the past 6 months or so i was using AntiVir free, until recently upgrading to the Premium version.

It's one of the nicest lightest AV's i've ever had, and very easy to configure. The main thing is it's ability to defend against lots of new Malware, and more often than not, i've found they are able to both track these down and provide the Defs updates for them a lot faster than many other vendors. Some vendors still havn't got the Defs for Lots of nasty Malware etc from months ago ?

Both versions also have excellent Heuristics, which have only given me a handful of FP's in all this time, even set on High as i do, and testing it against hundreds of nasties !

I and many other people agree they are Top performing AV's. You won't be disappointed with them.

I'm using NOD32 at the moment but if I were using a free AV, it would definitely be AntiVir.
