It was designed for hotspots and private residences, and was never meant to scale up to citywide wireless coverage. All the citywide roll-outs are finding out that getting good coverage and speeds is near impossible unless an area is blanketed with huge numbers of APs. And then the cost and maintenance issues start to make free roll-outs not financially feasible. Mobile Wimax anyone?? Or faster 3g/4g wireless coming soon?
