I see no one who has commented up to this point bothered to read the article. NOWHERE in the piece is the word "complained" used by the writer. It's just the person who wrote the piece for this forum who used the word "complained" to describe user issues. The article isn't even about people "complaining" about anything.
If you bother to read the actual article then you'll see that exactly ONE person had an opinion regarding the free wi-fi in the city, and that was to say that there was connectivity issues. The rest of the article details just the fact that free wi-fi "violates" business principles and that city workers will be able to communicate with each other better using the service. -- The Toll

If it does not...the city is not out much, if any capital expenses, and users still have other options, so where's the beef? As far as signal "over-riding"...duh...block out the connections that you don't want...as that guy in the article did...I have that "issue" here where I live! There are at least half a dozen strong networks that my wife's laptop will "switch to" so I fixed that...easy enough to do! -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

lol
And what I read was this, which is completely contradictory to this thread title. The statement is:
Haas said his company is getting good feedback from Foster City residents, and said that, of course, there will be some who experience problems. Those who have trouble getting a signal, he said, are probably more than 300 feet from the nearest equipment and need to buy a low-cost wireless modem.
From "good feedback" to "complaints" in just one repost! That's a hell of a slant on news distribution ! Surely degrades forum reputation.

Isn't that so/too often the case? Posters read the lead-in and skip the linked article to post a purely emotional response to an issue. That may help explain the rampant subject-verb agreement problems within the posts, but it doesn't help with WTF BBR editors are thinking when they allow junk lead-ins.
Anyway, I read the article up to this point:
"This week, the company announced that it is partnering with Microsoft to offer free Wi-Fi in Portland, and MetroFi CEO Chuck Haas said that partnership alone should provide some credibility to skeptics."
and bailed out. -- "I am not young enough to know everything." Oscar Wilde |
