| reply to Rejected One If you get bored with Suse and Mandriva, a noob distro will bore you even more (I consider both of those very noob friendly). Install Slackware, that will keep you going for a bit. Try a pure Debian install, that might be a bit easier. Then again you could always go Gentoo... -- I cannot deny anything I did not say |

| reply to Rejected One Contrary to popular belief, we don't like things to be hard to do. If a distro is popular among Linux users, chances are you'll be able to use it just fine. If you would direct your attention to DistroWatch, as recommended by the posting disclaimer, you'd see several popular distributions. -- Wiki Wiki Laughter is the closest distance between two people. --Victor Borge "Our politicians help the terrorists every time they use fear as a campaign tactic." -- Bruce Schneier |

| reply to Rejected One If you want to keep it simple and use linux for web browsing / email / chat etc, etc, here's another vote for Ubuntu. I love it for my desktop needs.
If you get bored and really want to "learn linux" install a distribution like debian but leave out X. Dump yourself on the command line and start cutting your teeth. -- »www.computerglitch.net |

| another vote for Ubuntu here. A great way to learn is to screw up a video driver install, completely brick your Xserver, and try to come back from command line. heheh.
But, in all seriousness, an Operating System is just that. What makes linux cool are all the amazing and powerful apps out there. IMHO, getting your repositories dialed in is the biggest hurdle. |
