Bandwidth charge, new policy

There will be a new price plan. They will put 30 gigs cap for new customer starting somewhere in December. It will be 1.50$ per additional gig, up to 30$. For the moment the current Sympatico users will keep it unlimited for the time being. There will be no way out of this for new order excepted for Ontario contract HSE or Ultra, I guess it's probably because of a glitch in their system or some kind of marketing strategy but anyway it gonna smoke.

Sympatico would have to be a bit more generous with the data cap since the current average cap rate would be around 60 GB. Perhaps someone would like to post some kind of proof of the "news"? We know Quebec has this cap.

Edit:

Besides - this is not a new policy. The $1.50 per GB to a maximum of $30 existed when Sympatico tried to implement the 10 GB data cap 3-4 years ago.

I can believe it. Sympatico has never done anything that makes sense. So much for anyone ever signing up for newshosting unlimited. Any sane company would increase bandwidth caps with the falling price of bandwidth if they even had caps in the first place. Once again it will be a boon for the smaller mom and pop internet companies.

I believe it's still $7.95 a gigabyte. It's $1.50 a gigabyte on the lower tier optimax.

Re: Bandwidth charge, new policy

When will Bell make this announcement and when will they cap existing HSE customers? I consume anywhere between 20GB - 100GB a month so I will have to find a new ISP if this is true.

Existing customers aren't impacted by this.

There was a post here a little while ago that was deleted and it said dec 3 for new customers. All new customers in Quebec and customers in Ontario who dont take a contract.
If I read it right the cap was 30 gig and 45 for ultra but I forget. It doesn't effect existing users in Ontario.

Shoulda copied it to a text file but I didnt think the post would get deleted.

how does this affect resellers or whole-sellers?

It's true it's not new policy but it will affect new customer as a whole excepted new Ontario Contract and later probably existing user. It sound like a test phase and they want to see the bitching about it to see if it will become standard or if they lose customers so that's why it's only the new one at the moment so bitch like hell if you don't want this to be defacto at a later time for all users.

Bell obviously didn't learn from their mistake the first time they added bandwidth cap.

Cap for new users Dec 3 probably means a few more months until everyone is capped.

The only reason I'm staying with Bell now, despite the horrible speeds, is the lack of caps.

At least this will give me a reason to switch to a better service...

Actually I think they did...last time it was a blanket change for everyone whereas now it's only new customers coming on that are affected by this. It's a much better approach...IMO.

Not for attracting new customers. Maybe there was too high influx from people dropping throttled cable that went to DSL?
