I am surprised AVG is dropping, as i thought they made major improvements between 7.1 and 7.5.

I'm curious but why is Webwasher on this list? Is it considered an AV app now? Or is this a marketing ploy?

How can it drop when this is the first test against ALL kind of malware?

Best regards,

AntiVir in the top 10 twice now, and Kaspersky nearly dropping off of it? What is this world coming to?

I bet for the most part, if someone runs one of the well know AV programs(including the freebies), they will be just fine. I think it is the people that run out of date programs or nothing at all, that need to worry.

What I meant to say is, a few % here or there probably makes very little difference in the real world. Results from tests are likely to vary over time. As long as you runs one of the programs you will probably be fine.

Say again? NOD32 doesn't show up in this test - since the tester has been forbidden to test NOD32 by ESET for some years in a row now - and for good reasons...

Look again at the list, Nod32 is listed there below Avast. If they are forbidden to test perhaps Eset has a bone to pick with them....

All freebies, AVG, AntiVir, avast! are always doing a very good results, they beat many (some beats all) well-known paid AV.

Too bad and always bad for CA eTrust and ClamAV, where are their substantial improvements?

ClamAV is a freeware project still in beta so it can be excused. CA eTrust, however is a commercial product and can't be cut the same amount of slack.

The 1st post in this thread quotes AV-Test's proponents as follows: "Beside over 83.000 worms the parasit collection consisted of more than 86,000 Bots, 218,000 Trojan horses and 79,000 Backdoors." Oddly enough, there is no mention of viruses whatsoever. Or did something get lost in translation?

It seems to me that the AV programs were tested against a test-bed of malware that usually is viewed as the province of AntiTrojan programs moreso than AntiVirus programs.

Could this be the reason why WebWasher did so well, I wonder?

I'm surprised Kaspersky scored so low on a trojan-related test. I think it's an outlier. In my experience, Norton is not better than Kaspersky and NOD32 isn't so far down.

interesting

What would be interesting is what combination of programs would allow you to more consistently hit 100% or the closest to it. ex. by running Ewido along with NOD would you then get a considerably higer score? What other combinations would be good for getting the higest possible score.

I wouldn't put to much faith in AV-TestGmbH. It is a profit oriented company that makes such tests by order of vendors and magazines. The main goal is to make money not to inform.
Does the result look strange for some of you? Well, that's how business works
I feel sorry about the average user purchasing those magazines and blindly resting upon their articles.

It's nice to see that Symantec is doing well and the others as well but McAfee has suprised me a little bit and i can't believe that WebWasher is the best? wow was this test done by the professional security experts?

Home users are more likely to see the malware tested here rather than viruses. So the fact that viruses were not in this test-bed is not particularly important.

As to the value of these results, av-test org is one of the acknowledged reliable testing sites so the results should be trustworthy.

Not surprised that Webwasher are at the top as they use AntiVir's engine.

It seems there is no doubt that Norton has gotten better, but that high? I'll just say that I won't use Norton over Kaspersky because of this.
