[Help] MSN - POP3 failures

I use IgLou DSL as my ISP. I use Outlook as my mail client. I have both an IgLou mail account (pop3) and an MSN mail account (pop3). I have used this setup for 18 months with no issues.

Beginning Nov 23-24, I get an error when retrieving email from the MSN mail address. The error is that the connection has been broken by the server, and that the id or password is invalid. I can OK the error, then start the retrieve again and get (most of the time) the mail delivered. Again to clarify, the receive fails, then works.

Has MSN made a change (such as port blocking, etc.)?

MSN has been weeding out pop mail for sometime.

Easiest way to fix it is to:
-Open Outlook Express
-click Tools
-click Accounts
-click on the Mail tab
-single click on the MSN account
-click remove
-click add
-click mail
-type your name
-type your MSN email address
-select HTTP from the drop down menu
-select Other from the other drop down
-in the mail server box type in:
http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata
-type your email address in the first box, password in the second (make sure you don't check the box that says "Log on using secure password authentication)
-click Finish

OK; After my pop3 failed and after several emails back and forth to MSN "support" they convinced me that POP3 was dead. I then set up Outlook to do HTTP rather than pop3.

Today (Jan 23) I receive a mailing from MSN that there are changes to pop3 access and certain changes in the setup must be made by Feb 1.

So pop3 lives? I will try tonight to see if the changes will bring it back to life.

I followed the instructions (three times). I still got an error when I tested. Interesting note is that the three test messages went through.

So what is happening at MSN and how do I get to talk to a live support person.

I know the email you are talking about... just ignore it and stick with http. No idea why they even sent that out...
