Good Price

If you own the DVD why would you want a PC copy? I'd just rip it to my ipod or whatever too. They should do movie downloads for that price then we're talking.

Re: Good Price

Its about time they got into the video download game. They'll bring the low prices.

Because legally, you CAN'T rip the movie to your IPOD. Remember the DMCA, well the DVD is protected under that, and if you do rip the DVD, you are going to spend time with BUBBA in the big house! (where's taylor when we need him?)

Re: Good Price

NPR had a short segment on how a university professor lobbied the Library of Congress for an exemption to cut content from a DVD and master it into his own for educational purposes. What was laughable was how the industry representative said a still from the movie is just as good and there was no need to use video aka moving pictures!!

The following link is from the EFF explaining the exemptions

Well if I own it fork them. Anyway looks like a pain in the ass to rip a movie to a ipod if I wanted it I'd just pay the $2 and download it long as it's a nice copy.

OK time to format the old PC damn thing.

It's only illegal if they catch you.

You are allowed to make a backup copy at least, who says the backup copy can't be on your iPod or other portable media device? I do get what you are saying though, neither Apple nor Wal-mart can support this officially since it just opens them up to more lawsuits thanks to the DMCA. It's a shame really, everyone will do it anyway on the black market so to speak which everyone could be cashing in on if they were smart.

Re: Good Price

i think because the dvd is encrypted you aren't allowed to decrypt it according to DMCA

No you are not -- backup copies of DVDs were NOT an allowed exception to the DCMA -- read the EFF link someone posted above.

Link me to an article of just one confirmed conviction in the U.S. of someone who only backed-up a DVD for personal use.

I think this is for the non-geeks.

Don't assume that everyone has the time or knowledge to rip a DVD, transcode it and load it onto their PMP.

Besides, $1.97 is pretty reasonable... especially considering Wal-mart sells DVD's as a loss-leader anyway.
