| headlights and switch pontiac sunfire
Hi,
I did a quick search on google and found a Yahoo-Answer ( »answers.yahoo.com/question/index···8AA33fu7 ) concerning my situation. I've had my car, a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE, for a couple years now. In that time, I've had lots of repairs due to my luck with auto accidents (none my fault) in which insurance companies have paid to make my car look almost brand new. I've gotten to know the Body Shop Manager at the local Chevy dealer, and have had various repairs done there at my expense as well. One thing I did was to get new headlights last year. I got them from Auto Zone, and tried to install them myself but I guess I got some oil on one cause it only worked for a few minutes and went out. They're not too expensive, $25 for the pair, so I got more and had them professionally installed.
They work fine, but a few months after I had them, they no longer output anything but DRL and High's. No Regular-beam. I asked the manager about it, he said sometimes High-Output lights can draw too much current and cause the switching mechanism to fail- that I should get it replaced and use normal bulbs from now on.
They don't make cool looking 'normal' bulbs though, and I would really like to get some someday. Specifically, I'm looking at a product by EuroDesignz ( »https://www.eurodezigns.com/shop/detail.aspx?ID=81 ), which the company claims uses the same amount of power, etc. and will not harm the vehicle. I will most likely buy a new switching mechanism if it's not covered under the above-referenced GM Recall (see Yahoo-Answer link).
Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks -- illegal wars, prisoners with no trials, and state controlled media. welcome to the land of the free! |

| oh come on... maybe the price does make a difference then?
i mean, with that logic, no one would ever get a new CD player or system installed for fear of imitating the luxury companies' products. -- illegal wars, prisoners with no trials, and state controlled media. welcome to the land of the free! |

| Automotive lighting is quite a different subject. This site: »www.danielsternlighting.com/ has the best explaination of *why* you don't want the tinted bulbs, whet their effects are on other drivers, and why you shouldn't use them. | And some aren't even legal...
That site is probably the best I've even seen that truely looks at all the issues of headlamps these days. Most of what's being used now is junk and the NHSTA rules make them worse. Hopefully something better will come from the review.
There was a time I couldn't understand why compostite or areo headlamps weren't allowed. Since they have been, it's been downhill. |

| Well, "Back In The Day" when I was a pup, we used to take the high beams out of our quad headlight-equipped cars, and replace them with aircraft landing lights. Man, talk about BRIGHT! -- One man's Magic is another man's Engineering. |

| I use to use euro-spec Cibie's, the Z-beams were the best I've ever seen. And any moron driving along with the highbeams on soon regreted it. The highbeams easily lit up a half mile of road.
The sad thing is, virutally any name brand of the old standand headlamps is far better than all the current junk they call headlamps. |
