| [Retouch] Can anything be done?
Anyone want to take a stab at this. It was scanned and sent to me by a friend of mine. It was taken in approximately 1960, Summer, of myself and eldest son. I don't have anything larger than this so I know it's pretty hard to work with. I also know we have many here that can work wonders!  It was horribly noisey so I worked a little on that but otherwise have done nothing on it. |

What I was looking for was anything that would make this scan better than what it is. There are some really well done renderings that you've given me. I am looking for as much definition and punch as can be pulled from a pretty bad image.
The best that I've been able to do is this and it doesn't compare to several of those that I see above. |

Here are two. The first one was done with a single click with the Levels tool, to get better color balance.
The second one went through my usual workflow: LAB curve steepening, brightness & contrast, and USM.

Thank you all for taking the time to improve upon, greatly, this old image. As you can tell by mine, I missed getting the colors right completely.
The sky should have been blue, I am standing in a dirt parking lot, and I am wearing a red and white shirt. I keep coming back to Richard50's and Fourboxes renderings which seems to pop out at me every time I scroll through this thread. Somehow, those seem more right to me although all of the others are so much more than I could accomplish.

My shot at it. Boosted size by pixles. Manually cleaned up some of the noise with the clone and healing brush. Converted to B&W. Added some grain. then some tint with Duotone. Then finally saved in RGB. |

No chance that the friend could re-scan it at higher resolution so you'd have a better image to work with?

I'll give it a shot when I get home. Do you want to be able to print this and, if so, what size? I figure you probably want the colors more a bit more "accurate" etc.
Heh... I believe this is the cleanest shot you've ever posted of yourself! ...IIRC, you've artified the living daylights out of all the other jaykaykay shots!

Heres what I got so far. I worked on the color and fixed a few things and upped the resolution 150%. Also tried to de-jaggify the JPEG compression as much as I could. |
