| reply to Gemologist Re: [FYI] Paint.net Better than Photoshop
Near as I can tell, it's usually the people who can't or don't know how to use Photoshop, that say another program is better than PS. Come on, NOTHING free is going to be BETTER than Photoshop and honestly, nothing for pay comes close either.
Free is good for starter "photo editors", but I'll never give up my PS, no matter what anyone else says. | | kyramilan

The key being MOST, but nowhere near all. Uh... Your printer's software can't do soft proofing and such like PS can, sorry. If you took the time and actually learned how to use PS and all its features you would see why Professionals swear by it. Just owning software doesn't mean you know how to use it. I am a best bang for the buck person, so I tried all the free alternatives, I still have Paint.net as well as GIMP installed, but they just couldn't do what I needed... so Adobe is what I ended up with. Curves, Duotone, Soft Proofing, Smart Sharpening, Lens Blur, Vanishing Point, LAB, etc. Just to name a few tools that other programs do not have.
BTW, your printer's software won't do you any good when you are sending out for real photographic prints, books, magazines, etc. nor will any of the other editing softwares; But Adobe PS will!!
If all you are doing is editing for fun or home or hobby, then GIMP, Paint.Net, or another cheaper paid program would most likely work for you and be more then you need.. But for Professional usage or when your products end in print then Adobe PS is the only choice right now, if you want full control over everything. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted.
