| don't you suspect we'd need a little more informaton about what your application would be for these?
Surely if you were planning to say, build a small brick b-b-q pit in your backyard surounded by a concrete patio, there would be differeing results?
I can't comment on the tires proper because I've never used them.. but I am aware it all depends how your specific application. -- ---Barney |

| reply to catric69 Looks like the people at tirerack like it, but don't ever even think of using those in the snow.
I had the misfortune of still having Summer tires on my car and driving through some shallow slushy snow. Very scary.
Since you're in Florida, probably not an issue, but just don't plan to drive too far North in the Winter months.
I've never used those tires, but if you're used to all season tires, you'll be amazed what a high performance summer tire can do for your car (or truck). I wish I could justify the cost of two sets of wheels and tires again and keep a Summer and Winter set. |

| reply to catric69 Question for you (or anyone in this thread that bought from Tire Rack).
Did you actually save any money using Tire Rack?
I tried on two vehicles and did not save a single bit worth mentioning. I opted to just have a local tire store handle the whole thing (order tires, mount and balance with lifetime re-balancing and rotation for free, dispose of old tires) and if there are any problems I can go right to the local shop instead of having to ship tires back to someone for any problems.
Here is one example on my son's car:
4] 215/60TR14 Kumho Touring Plus 732 Blackwall Tires
$288.00 out the door for all 4 at the local Tire Shop. That's $72.00 each tire with all taxes and fees. Includes lifetime re-balancing and rotation.
Now at Tire Rack (exact same tires).
4] 215/60TR14 Kumho Touring Plus 732 - $46.00 ea = $184.00

FEDEX 3 DAY EXPRESS SAVER shipping 3 Business Days + $36.24
184.00 + 36.24 = $220.24
Plus -- Additional Fees and Taxes Tax: $13.21 Excise Tax: $0.00 State Waste Tire Fund Fee: $4.00 Grand Total: $237.45
So it comes to $237.45 to get the tires to me. Now it costs $12.00 per tire to get a local recommended installer to mount and balance the tires and dispose of the old tires.
4 tires x $12.00 = $48.00 (Mount and Balance labor - local)
Now it is $237.45 + $48.00 = $285.45 [$71.36 each tire]
It's a grand total of $2.55 in savings on 4 tires using Tire Rack. Not worth it to me at all.
Local Store out the door = $288.00 [$72.00 each tire] Tire Rack + Local M/B fee = $285.45 [$71.36 each tire]
See what I mean?

| why didnt you call a local shop and have them match prices with Tirerack? I did it last year when i got tires for my dad's car. Local shops will usually match prices with shipping factored in and install them at a lower price since you bought the tires there. we saved a lot of money going this route. FWIW it's an option to anyone in the market for new tires. |

Don't you think it would be silly to ask for a 64¢ per tire in a Price Match?

| the tires my dad wanted were $59 a piece at the local tire store and $38 a piece on tirerack. Standard shipping would have been $7 a tire, with that figured in, the local tire shop sold me the same tire for 38+7= $45 which is a $14/tire savings. Then they installed them for a smaller fee since i bought the tires from them and threw in free lifetime balancing and rotations...without even looking at installation, i saved $64 which was totally worth the phone call i made to the tire shop to ask if they matched prices. I didn't have to wait 7 days for the tires to come in or carry them to the tire place. The people at the shop were happy to have my business and i was glad to save some money while supporting local business... |

| That's wonderful, but you cannot use a blanket statement to apply/compare your Dad's purchase to mine which is what you attempted to do. It's very likely your local shop overcharges for their tires plus labor and the local shop I use (independent, not chain) by comparison does not or has more local competition and prices their tires accordingly. That is very likely why you had a $60.00 difference and I did not on two separate cars and tires sizes/brands I compared online and locally.
And you skipped the question I posed since you didn't see there was a $2.55 (64¢ per tire) difference not $60.00 in the tires I'm getting.
Bottom Line: Asking for a Price Match is useless and a 100% waste of time when the difference is under a few dollars as I clearly posted in my details you must not have fully read.

| reply to Doctor Olds The people I know who use Tire Rack don't use it to save money (although they can have good deals on wheel/tire packages) but it is mainly that Tire Rack usually has a better mix of tires - especially for performance/race cars and then they ship to a Tire Rack trusted installer... |

| He made a non-serious suggestion to ask for a price match on a $2.55 difference and that is ridiculous to do so on a ~$290.00 purchase. It seems obvious he didn't read what the actual difference was. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| reply to catric69 Price matches would normally be made as tiphozi states.
Factoring the price of instalation into the comparison of price is not valid IMHO. Price match the tires only, including taxes and shipping. Including installation in the price comparison just confuses the issue.
It is like shopping for a car, bringing up the a trade-in just confuses the true price of the car you are purchasing. -- Overheard: "I could careless matter of Fact"

No it doesn't as the local shop prices the tires and then if you want them to install them, they then give you a new price that includes the labor.

| reply to Doctor Olds Yes -- I use Tire Rack and I do save money. I also have an unusual tire size which few stock. Recently while on the road I destroyed one of my real dually tires. I wanted a specific tire and Tire Rack said it was back-ordered. I was at my sisters at the time in Oklahoma City and so I called around to see if anyone could get the tire I wanted. A local chain said they could -- 3 -5 days. They had it in three -- except when I went to pick it up, after it was mounted, I looked at it and told them they had gotten me the wrong tire. Sure enough, the tire mounted was a cheaper tire. Long story and I don't have the actual numbers but they wanted about $155 out the door for that tire. I could have gotten it from Tire Rack for $78 plus about $12 shipping -- mounting would have been about $20 for a total out the door of $115 to $120. They sold it to me for their cost, free mounting, etc as they had ordered the wrong tire and they wanted me to have a spare for my trip. The tire shops wholesale price was very close to the entire mounted cost out the door for the Tire Rack tire. Oh yeah, I would have had it from Tire Rack in two days (Friday) enabling me to return home on schedule instead of it being late Monday enabling a Tuesday return. I LIKE TIRE RACK !!! |
