| Solaris 10 x86 question..(Internet related)
Ok...I just want to know on how I can I get my Internet working under Solaris 10 since Solaris 10 does not have any kind of PPPoE DIALER installed with it...
The problem is, I dont have a router...and someone told me that I MUST AND MUST have a router to get the Internet working under Solaris...PERIOD...
Now Im only connecting through my ADSL Modem supplied from my ISP under WIndows 2000...But is there a way to suceed this under Solaris without using a router? |

| said by No_Strings :Why not use ICS on the Windows box? Either enable ICS on the W2K machine with the following setup: ModemsW2KS10 or enable DHCP server on S10 (I'm assuming it has that functionality built in) with the following setup: ModmesS10W2K
If S10 has a built in DHCP server then I'd suggest the second choice as ICS is one of those things to do only if you have to, because it's not very robust. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| ICS is internet connection sharing. Here is how to set it up. »support.microsoft.com/kb/237254/ //edit never mind you edited your post and the above answer doesn't make sense anymore. |

| I have a better solution but I dont know how to install this once its downloaded.. »www.roaringpenguin.com/penguin/o···/rpPppoe
I'll burn this on a CD-R and install it on Solaris...But can you please explain on how to install this under Solaris?
Secondly...If I enable ICS on WIndows..then how will the PPPoE work under Solaris?? Remember...I am dual-booting with Windows on ONE PC.. |

| reply to slajoh01 Then I'm confused about your setup. Do you have a Solaris box and W2K box (i.e. two computers), a Solaris/W2K dual-boot box (i.e. one computer), just a W2K box, or just a Solaris box? If you only have one box with Solaris, who is your ISP and what modem do you have? Most ISPs have PPPoE being done by the modem now. If the modem is expecting the PC to do PPPoE then I'm pretty sure that there is a PPPoE client for Solaris you can get, but I don't really know that for sure. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| I have ONLY ONE computer running a dual-boot Windows/Solaris 10...Thats all...My ISP connection requires a PPPoE type connection.
Now, I posted a link were I can download a PPPoE software for Solaris... »www.roaringpenguin.com/penguin/o···/rpPppoe
But one problem...I do not know how to install this TAR.GZ file...
Can you explain this to me before I burn the install file onto a CD? |

Maxo Your tax dollars at work. Premium,VIP join:2002-11-04 Tallahassee, FL clubs: | Ok, you will need either a router or you will need to install the PPPoE client for Solaris. I'm don't know much about Solaris so I can't really help you install it. Many here are running it and I'm sure know exactly what you need to do. |

| Ok..well..I may not be needing that after all I hope...Because now I have a router (from my firend who just came by)..But heres the issue..
The router appears to be working under WIndows 2000...but when I boot into Solaris, I cannot get the Internet to work...
So do I have to reinstall Solaris and configure my DHCP/Internet settings in the installer or can I just reconfigre it within SOlaris somewhere???
In other words...since I got my router working under Windows, where do I have to go in order for Solaris to see my router connection?? Or to reconfigure Solaris to connect to the Internet using a router???
I am dual-booting with Windows..
I hope I dont have reinstall Solaris in order to re-configure my Internet connection...
Thats all I the help I need this far...
And my NIC Adapter seems to be compatible too..Look here »www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/so···996.html |

| PLEASE NOTE: I AM DUAL BOOTING WITH ONE MACHINE.
In Windows 2000, I typed "ipconfig/all" and heres what it came out to be below...So the information on what you see below...do I have to enter the IP address, Default gateway, and the DNS somewhere under Solaris??
I am using a PPPoE type connection...But everything works fine under Windows..but Solaris cannot log me on to the Internet after booting.
Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : server1 Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139(A) PCI Fas Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0D-87-2F-65-66 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 84.2.44.1 84.2.46.1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 30 Nov 2006 18:50:03 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 01 Dec 2006 18:50:03
So what do I have to do in order for Solaris to log me on the Internet?? What information do I have to have and where can I enter this without re0installing Solaris??
The router works OK under Windows..But when after booting to Solaris I clicked on the browser button and the connection failed...
How can I resolve this problem? |

| reply to slajoh01 You need to set up your networking under Solaris to use DHCP. That much is obvious from looking at the Windows IP configuration, so why are you asking here?
I'd tell you how to do it, but, well, I don't know.
I bet Google does. |

I suppose this somehow makes using DSLR possible, but using Google impossible? |
