1 edit | probably due to price
I'm up for renew on my DSL (DSL Extreme), and have been thinking about going to cable for reliability, and a little kick in speed.
DSL Extreme: $19.95 for 1500/384, $24.95 for 3000/512, $34.95 for 6000/768
Time Warner: $34.95 for 1500/384, $44.95 for 6000/512
I'll keep my extra $$ for now. Even though AT&T's lines may not be the greatest (+12k feet from CO, no VRAD coming to my area in the next year), TimeWarner/Comcast lines in my area are just as old, and there's been many issues with TW/Comcast switchover. |

| I agree. Basic DSL service here can be had for $12.95 per month. Not real fast by state-of-the-art standards to be sure, but for many, many users, 768 down is plenty fast enough. Price will always be a determining factor for many. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| reply to en102 That's probably about it. In Tallahassee Comcast's standard package $57.95 for 6M. Embarq's standard package is something like $34.99 for 1.5M. I don't think the average person gives a crap about 1.5M vs 6M as much as they care at $55+ vs. $35. On the other hand, $55 with Embarq will only get you 5M service and that's as high as you can go. Embarq also has everyone on interleave by default making Comcast the way to go for gamers. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| reply to en102 Well for those "cablevision" customers on the east coast, they are offering 30M dn and 5M up for slightly over double the cost of DSL's 1.5M lines. And if they can do it all the cables companies could.. just a matter of need. Out here cable has allways put it to the dsl companies, unfortunatly for those "file shares" you will get your bandwidth cut if they feel your "serving". |
