What should I do? Should I be worried about my comcast account being terminated? Should I be worried about being sued or something like that?

Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

It's a warning, but if you ever get caught sharing copyright materials again you will most likely be sued by the copyright owner as well as face termination of your Comcast account.

There was a pretty long discussion last month from another poster that got caught. »Comcast is spying on me!

While this is a warning, take heed and treat it with extreme seriousness. Do not expect the next one to be a warning.

It's just a warning. In all seriousness, although I would delete the material, I wouldn't be overly concerned with an imminent lawsuit or anything like that.

I've yet to see a single thread on here about one of those that actually resulted in legal action. Take it for what it's worth.

It says from torrent, I wonder if he was using encryption like he should have been.

Encryption does not make what you are doing invisible from my understanding. All encryption does is by pass sniffers for certain types of packets (in order to by pass traffic shaping for example).

If you are connected to a tracker, even if you are using encyption, your IP address is still listed and thats what the MPAA/RIAA etc use to nab you.

Yeah, I was thinking safe peer, dunno why I posted encryption.

Doesnt even safe peer not do much? I thought it was still quite possible to find info since IP info is passed along in the packets (maybe encryption could be more useful there but the IP is probably in the clear).

Interesting. Haven't previously seen one of those for software. Has anyone else known anyone who's gotten a DMCA notice for non-movie/non-music piracy?

Its always been more than just the record industry. The record industry just gets more attention because of the crap they pull.

Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

Does it have to be Adobe or some company they hired in order to turn someone in, or can anybody file a complaint against anyone?

I wonder why some Internet providers like Comcast send lots of these TOS violation letters to their users, and others like AT&T don't?

How do you know that AT&T doesn't send those letters?

Comcast has a lot more subs then AT&T so it's only natural there would be a higher visibility with the letters.

Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

I'm basing it off the forums here. I have yet to see a violation letter in the AT&T forums unlike the several I see in the Comcast forums. I'm willing to be AT&T probably gets them, but they don't pass it on to their subscribers like Comcast, Cox and Charter do.

You would then be overlooking 'news://news.sf.sbcglobal.net/sbcglobal.help.tech.*', where I have seen AT&T DMCA letters posted. No, you can't go there unless you are an 'at&t Yahoo! HSI' subscriber.

If "10" (million) is a "lot" more than "8" (million), I guess you are right...
