| I'm using two different(?) operating systems when I download, Win XP Home, and Win XP Pro x64. Normally, I use the x64 computer more than the other. (That one is mine, the Home machine is for everyone else)
Before you ask, the Win XP Pro x64 operating system came bundled free with the motherboard/processor I bought. |

| No, there was no anti-virus software with it, just an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro x64. Frankly, I think the dealer had a bunch of copies of it, and a lot of "old" 64 bit hardware, and saw this as a way to get rid of both of them.
I do have Avast! Antivirus running on it, and the Windows firewall is running with it's default settings. I probably could turn off the Windows firewall since the Netgear router has a firewall built into it.
The one thing is that the other computer had the exact same problem, and it was running the "standard" copy of Windows XP Pro.
I set up the router to do the authentication for the net, I'm told that there is a way to have the modem do it, but I never checked into how to do it. |
