File Sharing FAQ

Hello all,

In an effort to improve the FAQ »File Sharing FAQ I am gathering suggestions from everyone. What changes do you want to see made, and what do you want to see out of the FAQ.

I would appreciate it if we kept this post as on topic as possible as well.

Re: File Sharing FAQ

what about under newsgroups.....
whether or not you can make a request for something to be posted to a particular group and how that is done.

thanks for allowing us feedback.

I use a DC program that I thought is good- SababaDC which can be found here: »sourceforge.net/project/showfile···d=175485 i think it provides some options that DC++ doesn't have (last time I checked DC++ which was kinda a long time) but i think that its pretty good, I use it a lot.

Newsgroups section could really use a revamping. Prices and what you get for money (retention, ssl, connections). Sites like blocknews.net usenet-news.net ngroups.net should also be listed. Pretty much most of the prices seem outdated right now.

I think updating the p2p apps currently working should go on the list..

I use »www.frostwire.com and find it really good.

I saw that the OP hasn't been online in 4 weeks..

Will the FAQ be updated?

Saw Kazaa still on there..that program is a nightmare ..and WinMX is dead

I'll stick with my original post above for music.

The information you have provided on the Filesharing FAQ page regarding Shareaza is false information. The Shareaza site has been forced to move to »shareaza.sourceforge.net. The Shareaza forums have also moved to »www.shareazasecurity.be/forum/ . The site you are currently linking to( shareaza.com )is a spoof of the original site and distributes a malware client known as ShareazaV4. This scam site also takes advantage of the security mechanism in 2.3.0.0 and sends update notifications to users still using Shareaza 2.3.0.0 urging them to download and install the fake version. Secunia has put out a security advisory.

If you still don't believe me then here is some evidence that will support my claims:

Press Release (regarding the takeover) - »www.shareazasecurity.be/forum/vi···6&t=1070
Secunia Advisory (regarding the vulnerability in 2.3.0.0) - »secunia.com/advisories/28302/
McAfee Site Advisor (analysis of shareaza.com) - »www.siteadvisor.com/sites/shareaza.com
Heise Security (article about vulnerability) - »www.heise-online.co.uk/security/···s/101548
TorrentFreak Article (regarding takeover) - »torrentfreak.com/shareazacom-hij···-071224/
Slashdot Article (regarding takeover) - »yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=···6/102239
P2PNet Article (regarding the scam) - »www.p2pnet.net/story/14455
Wikipedia Article - »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shareaza#D···transfer
Shareaza Forum Section (devoted to the takeover) - »www.shareazasecurity.be/forum/vi···php?f=46

Once again, the correct links are:
Shareaza Homepage - »shareaza.sourceforge.net/
Shareaza Forums - »www.shareazasecurity.be/forum/

Please correct these links ASAP.

Thank you,
The Shareaza Team

Re: File Sharing FAQ

Get rid of Kazaa since it's now a paid service like Napster.

Add an FAQ for Filetopia: »www.filetopia.org/ and Soulseek: »www.slsknet.org/
