said by luk350 :I'm DL on my DSL in other house 24/7, almost runing limit on daily usage from rapidshare plus non-stop Shareaaza client and never ever got anything from my ISP. so what the point having top speed and being worry all the time am i over dl limit? yes, i have my DSL speed capped, but that phisical line limitation, not someone "freely" actions. When my promotion on cable expiried, i'm moving back to DSL. What is your DSL DL speed? How many subscribers does your DSL provider have?
Your DSL provider almost certainly is giving you less download speed than Comcast, and may well have a lower subscriber to bandwidth ratio than Comcast has.
Assuming a 1536kbits/s DSL connection, you will only be able to get 1/5 the data volume as you could get from a Comcast connection for a given time period.
I wonder what would happen if you capped your own Comcast bandwidth consumption to just 20% of the total theoretically possible by running full bore 24/7? -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

To be honest that sounds great for both Comcast Users and Comcast Bean counters. You don't sound like the type of Customer that any company wants.

1 edit | So I will just change that to 10%. Whatever it takes. He isn't going to get anywhere near 600GB on the average DSL connection; considering that 80% of DSL customers on any service available will be 3Mbits/s, or less, on the download. Let him limit his download volume to the equivalent of 3Mbits/s (less ATM overhead; most DSL providers sell synch speed, so his D/L will be closer to 2.5Mbits/s). -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

1 edit | Why are you saying 600gb when it's less than that...
We don't know though... we can only *guess*... which is the whole point of this thread.
Nobody *knows* exactly how much you're allowed to d/l before Comcast comes down on you like the Gestapo.
The opposing view rebuttle is that whatever we d/l, it's too much and we should know better. |

2 edits | reply to anon63452 My dream (I dream big) is to see a topic about bandwidth abuse in the Comcast HSI Forum which does not need constant moderation because some participants don't understand that namecalling (direct or indirect) is against site and forum rules and actually weakens their argument. My dream is that those who don't have points strong enough to make some impact on the viewer's thought process would simply refrain from posting, learn from those who don't need such tactics ... from those who have logic and reason to offer.
I dream of this topic being filled with those who understand they don't have to repeat their points over and over and force the entire world to believe. Good thought and reasoning offered will be appreciated by the mind who chooses to learn from it. No amount of pounding will convince the mind which is already made up. Nobody has to win and there actually may be more than one truth amid some of the issues we discuss. If only we could learn to offer what we know and then let it be.
For those who don't know to what logical fallacy refers, start here: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_fallacy
You might find your arguments better received with a bit of study in this area.
Note: This is not aimed at anyone in particular. Just my thoughts on how such topics could be more interesting and helpful to all.
This one is locked, too much mod editing involved after I made it clear we needed to stick to the technical issues. |
