[HSI] VPN Problems with Patriot Media?

Just got 7/1 HSI service from Patriot. I have a Motorola SB5101 modem with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Even though I have the VPN pass-throughs checked off in the router config pages, I have not been able to connect via VPN to my work network. I had no problem doing so with dial up. I have tried opening ports per LinkSys doc #574, but this has not worked. Is there a setting on my modem that has to be changed??

Can anyone help with this problem.

I connect all the time thru VPN, Although i would stay away from Linksys. Did you try restarting your router? The one we test at work often freezes up, and need a restart to do a new vpn connection, yet all other internet works.

Dave,

Thanks, at least I know its not a Patriot problem. I will try the router restart. Did you have to open up any ports on your router to enable your VPN connection?

No its worked right out of the box. I would also restart the cable modem as well. Vpn uses alot of memory, so if it get flooded its just doesnt work.

My VPN works fine with Patriot. I'm using a Linksys WRT54GS with no special settings. Does your VPN only accept connections from known address?

Re: [HSI] VPN Problems with Patriot Media?

Thanks for the replies. My problem with the WRT54G V6, was in the firmware. Linksys issued a firmware update on 11/10/06 that fixed the issue with VPN. Apparently this was a very common problem with v5 and v6 of this router (I found many complaints about it in the LinkSys forums). After the firmware upgrade to v1.01.1, VPN worked perfectly!
