Still not SIP compliant

It is still not SIP compliant and I still cannot set it up in my ATA. Calling from a computer with your headset on is not really my idea of fun.

Re: Still not SIP compliant

Exactly. Regardless of what the "myspace" crowd thinks, it will be a very long time before we completely give up telephones for IM, or anything else attached to a computer.

...we'll have to live without faxes, snail mail and newspapers first!

Skype is like a VoIP provider that isn't. It supports no standards and ties you to a desk! If their service is free and I don't use it...why will I pay to use it?

Re: Still not SIP compliant

You can get a wifi phone that has no wires to your computer at all.

But then again what skype is best for is calling internationally for free (skype to skype). Its also good for gamers to have a quick voice comm solution (what I use it for).

"myspace crowd"?

you obviously don't travel...

Skype works perfectly on the road - and I'm not to about to lug my phone adapter to call back home from the UK -

and if you don't use it - I don't care

It is not important that Skype is not SIP compliant and why do you believe that you must use a headset and a computer to use Skype?

Why would you possibly believe that Skype "ties you to a desk"?

Skype does not offer flexibility and can be considered as consumer grade VOIP. SIP is more complex and can be expanded using a PBX box creating a entire phone network for your enterprise or small business without the need to get multiple lines for each phone.

On top of that I use Gizmo project which uses the jabber protocol for communication and I am able to cross talk between networks within the VOIP client. Livejournal has also done this and I have no problem contacting between networks.

I am aware that Skype has it's own devices and I have installed such devices for customers who asked, but I rather have SIP over Skype over the quality, the standard, and the flexibility.
