This is my take on these two "related" open source projects:

pfSense is definitely better for faster X86 CPU boards since it offers many more features. But m0n0wall is faster and simpler on slower X86 CPU on WRAP or Soekris used by many WISPs.

I am expecting m0n0wall 1.3 to handle 2 Atheros on WRAP 233Mhz but have to confirm with some field tests over the holidays.

Arlington, VA		 You also can run m0n0 on a 16 MB CF card - pfSense has a much bigger footprint.
