You ever notice that when you use a "Flash" player for download tests they seem to be less than those that a Java based?

My uploads on Flash are always about 100-200 kbs less than on Java. The downloads are only slightly less.

The Flash tests are more CPU dependent than the Java tests.
If you have any high-processor-utilization apps running (especially things like DC projects that eat up all the CPU available), shut them down or pause them - then run the Flash test(s) - you'll be more likely to get equivalent, or at least closer results. Also note that the 'payload' for the 2 types of tests are different, so you'll never see exactly the same result.

Hi,

I don't think that is the problem, even if CPU isn't the issue. I have a very high end PC, nothing running, and every site that uses flash reports a slower speed. Not that it is actually slower, just that when the file is finished uploading, or downloading on flash sites, there is a split second from where it is finished to where it is calculated.

That is where I think the discrepancy comes in. That problem doesn't happen in java, because it operates separate from a time stamp that flash doesn't operate.

It's probably Insights fault that the flash based speed tests don't work right.
