Best video camera (web cam type) for making videos?

Hi,

At work, we need to make a video of our vice president speaking to our customers about procedures. This will need to be either emailed or placed on our web site for download.

We are looking for suggestions on the best video camera that can plug into a PC via USB so that we can make a good quality video (without going all crazy with high performance electronics). Something that will make a good video with sound and is perhaps bundled with some decent graphics/movie editing software.

In addition, I would like to know if Windows Movie Maker is decent enough to be used to edit raw footage and put together something decent?

Thanks for any suggestions!

My suggestion is to avoid any PC connected camera and just purchase a good quality DIGITAL camcorder. This may also be your most cost effective solution in the long run.

A DIGITAL camcorder can be used almost anywhere, set it up on a tripod or take it on a walk-around, something you can't do with a PC attached camera as well.

The digital video can then be transfered from the camcorder to a PC for final editing, titles, etc and your ready to publish to the web or DVD.

You might also want to consider the purchase of a wireless microphone. The receiver would plug into your camera audio input, then if your speaker/subject is moving around, they wear a small lapel clip-on mike transmitter. Sound quality from the built in mike on a camera just would NOT do for business presentations.

I don't think you'll find the video & audio quality of USB/PC attached video devices ever approach that of the current hand held products.

i've never tried saving video from my webcams, but if this is of your vp, it seems you would want better quality.
many camcorders will work via usb, and will have much better graphics quality using better optics. camcorders can be had pretty cheap these days. some are firewire only, and some will use usb. either way, you may want to consider using an external microphone for good audio quality.
having said that, just make a test video with any old webcam, and ask them if the quality is good enough.
i would say movie maker will suffice for basic video edits. you prolly don't want to garbage it up with a bunch of fancy transitions anyhow.
i'll try recording a video with my creative webcam this weekend and see how it does. for normal webcam use, this has been my best quality webcam so far. it's the creative livecam video IM pro. i have 4 different webcams.

Buy a better video card for your computer that supports "video in" then just use a regular "camcorder" then record the video onto your computer via your video card ...

You can make it into any format you want ...
