| Lavasoft = Privacy? Not any more!
I don't know how many of you subscribe to the Lavasoft Updates & news. I have been subscribed at least for several years. However, I see that Lavasoft has now provided my email address to BlueHornet, a third party marketing company.
What got me was the message when I unsubscribed:
Thank you. This e-mail address will be opted out from all marketing e-mail subscriptions within 48 hours. In the interim, you may continue to receive e-mail marketing to which you originally subscribed. If you wish to resume e-mail communications in the future, please click on the subscribe button on the homepage of our site. {Emphasis added}
For those who don't subscribe, what I found is documented in my blog posting at »securitygarden.blogspot.com/2006···-to.html -- Microsoft MVP, Windows - Security; Admin Council; Charter Member ASAP; Take a walk though the Security Garden, Where Everything is Coming up Roses" |

| reply to Corrine Bah- I got rid of Lavasoft sooo long ago. They just can't be trusted. They've lost all credibility. You will recall their exclusions list some time ago which actually allowed some spyware to pass by their filters. -- It's viruses...the word virii does not exist. |

I suppose none of us should really be surprised at this lame attempt at increasing their revenue stream. |

Edit: It would be interesting to learn what other spam campaigns Bluehornet has been involved it. |

| reply to Corrine Lavasoft seems to be taking the route that Panda Software has been going - spamming people. I can't speak for beenieman but I have secured my daughter's PC without the use of any 3rd party anti-malware applications. She is running XP Pro, uses an LUA, has secure browser settings she cannot change, http is filtered via Proxomitron whose settings she cannot access, she cannot install software, NTFS restrictions and Software Restriction Policy prevent her from running any software I did not expressly make available to her (whitelist). She surfs the web, uses email and IM. No infections of any kind as yet and I get bored looking for them.
I'll bet the anti-malware companies just love this testimonial. -- Where's Jesus? Dear Jesus! |
