I'll bet the anti-malware companies just love this testimonial.

I personally do not like 3rd party handling emails for any company as lavasoft had to give them list of emails in order to send the emails. I was taking a break, but it's time people realized what your input really is, in general a small kid making out you are older, with a wish list to be grown up before your time! either that or seriously handicapped and that does tend to give 'Extra' privileges around here; Stop trolling the forums.
WhenU was a rather nasty event. Corrine you made an excellent observation and that tends to ride back to basics, people are getting lazy when it comes to basics. I think you are an asset in security.
Calamity is rather profound and not only respected, but liked. I'm sure CJ has a few answers and this was one!

Her advise to users on this board has always been with sincerity and the want to help them with whatever issue they have. I see no lies here. Corrine & CalamityJane have always been up front as long as I have known them as well.

| reply to Corrine I have been using Ad Aware for years and I will continue to use it, as it has served my husband and I well. I have come to trust most of the people and their opinions, reflections and knowledge here. Sometimes you have to wait for the dust to settle after a storm to what really happened. That is what I did before I was ready to delete the program.

said by Corrine :CJ, you are the best and have my sincere and utmost respect. And you have mine!
Corrine does a lot of hard work volunteering in numerous forums too. She helps a lot of people, not only with Ad-Aware but with malware removal in general and overall PC security. I hardly think she was asking the question to "plug" her blog. Knowing Corrine as well as I do working closely with her over the years - she just doesn't operate that way.
It was a good question because there are likely others who wondered about the newsletter coming from Blue Hornet all of a sudden (me, not being observant enough to have noticed it when I got mine)...I saw Corrine's question here and sought to get a answer from the source. Which we did - so that's great and if anyone still wonders they now have an answer if they search for it. -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a femaleMicrosoft MVP/Windows Security 2003-2007Proud Member of ASAP (Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals) |

Another stupid (and rude) statement...you apparently think CJ is a robot who can't think for herself or would sit back quietly and say nothing if something nefarious was going on. How insulting.
I can't believe people are freaking out because LS has handed over their newsletter mailings to another (well known) company, which is nothing new or unusual. Most people probably don't have a clue where "newsletter" type emails actually originate from, especially when there are large amounts of them to be sent out.
If everyone is so paranoid, use a throw away email address or don't "sign up" for mailings, or better yet, don't ever use products that require an email address to download and install....you never know who they're going to sell your *soul* to. -- ~~Well, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, just like me...~~

| reply to Anon said by bettywont :Seems to me you are stirring the pot to promote your site and I'm not falling for it. Not hardly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To those uninstalling Ad-Aware, please note that my complaint was not about Ad-Aware, but rather the sudden appearance of an e-mail from an e-marketing company, with no change to the Lavasoft privacy policy and the fake-looking information in the email, which, when mousing over the links showed a dr.bluehornet.com address -- including the link to the Lavasoft Privacy Policy.
I have been subscribed to Lavasoft newsletters and the like since 2003 (not November 7, 2006 as indicated in the email), volunteered countless hours on the former support forum, have continued to help users with Ad-Aware & Ad-Watch at the current forum and other help forums, and went out on a limb defending Lavasoft over the WhenU fiasco (Yes, it was a very badly handled situation and has been rectified with proper notice now when there is a de-listing.)
Although my post had nothing to do with the number of users of Ad-Aware, don't be confused with the number of cumulative downloads of the various versions of AAW with the number of users. Having "lived through" a version release, I am well aware that the counter at download.com and the other mirror sites was not reset to reflect a new version but rather added on. Thus, 200 million downloads of AAW does not mean there are close to 200 million users of AAW.

| reply to Anon I don't think Corrine needs traffic to her site any more than Lavasoft needs to breach privacy to email 1mil people. It was a valid concern of hers that she raised and that was answered.

| reply to Corrine Re: Lavasoft = Privacy? Not any more!
I just ripped through the free version and don't find anything astounding....But, like the other long timers, I do remember the issues with Lavasoft. It's pretty much moot, not much to talk about really ~Knocking out a few cookies does not amount too much.
Sometimes, it would be nice, if people stopped relying on these rather benign programs and began to understand their Reg files. I know, it's an old concept; but when will people get tired of relying on others for basic cleanups?
I won't knock S&D, to date I have not seen any inference that indicates a problem. Still, it's time to get past the cookie cutter and delve a wee bit deeper into reality.
Well, that's my .2c |

I believe in second chances and this looks like a business decision to outsource their mailings. I will keep my eyes open but until I see some more proof that they were selling email address to a marketer I will take them at there word
I am not one to jump to quickly, a friend or a business will have me at their side till it is clear that they no longer deserve it. |
