I'm not a big P2Per, but most of them will allow you to browse the source, so they wouldn't need any kind of hacks or Trojans.
Say someone runs a search for a file and they find it on your machine. They then have the option to browse the source of that file, which would be your computer. They can browse through what you have offered to share in the P2P application.
Sounds like you had files shared that were copyrighted.

ETA: Last I checked Bush is in the executive branch, which doesn't make laws. The legislative branch does that... Did Bush have a hand in the bill creation and push it? Sure, no argument there. Still had to pass both houses before it got to his desk. I'm not saying he is not a part of the law's creation, only that it is quite silly to blame him alone when you don't like it.
EDIT 2: Let's see... both of the good senators from California voted in the affirmative to extend it:

| reply to Tweekr I will not elaborate on any of this story, let's just say it was true.
A rumour started up, a man was charged, he owned a computer business; all was taken in for inspection, he was left with near on nothing to continue he daily running of his business, until he and his lawyers proved the story wrong.
He ordered all further conversations on the topic held liable. So this is all you get.
Feel for Tweekr if it is true, but not being active in the forums, and helping others has left him/her on the backfoot, now wanting member's help. -- The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke |

We have a policy here "dob in a neighbour".
I won't voice my opinion on that. It's what we live with in this "day n age"
