What is it? "Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888"

Hello all
Happy Holiday's

What is this?
"Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888"
I believe it is malware. What does it do? Where does it live? Where does it come from? I have been looking high and low for info on this but I can only seem to find one half "Smitfraud-C." or the other "Toolbar888". Is this one object or two? where can I find a definition of "Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888"? Not a definition file or update, found endless supply of those, but they don't seen to give the information I'm looking for.
Is spybot search and destroy giving me a false positive? Have they fixed the problem? How would I know? I looked but I'm still not sure of ... well anything. There has to be an easer way to deal with this kind of thing. I hope. Can someone please point to some helpful websites.
I feel stuck at a1 of the security clean up.

Thanks
Lefty

Only because SS&D had a recent false postive concerning this find would I say look into that also as a possibility.

@ Spybot Forum---> Spybot detects what it refers to as "Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888"
