EphPod didn't work, have ITunes now (thanks to fourboxers)
Have to install sandboxie on my other machine and work from there... last think I want is QuickTime garbage, have it well covered with an alternative

| Update, can't get IPod server (ITunes component)to initialize while installing it in a sandbox. I guess g-kid is out of luck, since I have no desire to try to delete/kill quicktime other stuff.
If he is very persuasive, I may use an uninstaller to monitor the install from the start so I can document and un-do all the changes, but looks like I'll just convert things to MP4 and store them on his drive until he flies back home and can have friends (who have them) get him up and running.
Knowing what I know now, I would have tried to talk him into another brand of system, but that is a moot point now.
