| Comcast two year service plan for old customers
Did anyone else get an insert with an offer for a two year locked rate service plan? This is the first I have seen of a triple play not just for new customers. Here in North NJ the offer is:
•Triple Play Starter $99
•Triple Play Preferred Plus (Digital Variety with HBO, Showtime and Starz) 6Mbps, $129.99
•Triple Play Premier adds Movie Channel, Digital Sports and 8/16Mbps $159.99
I'm thinking it is a reaction to FIOS coming to town. In which case, competition is good! |

Intriguing!
I'm in an Adelphia->Comcast transition region, with looming FiOS availability (Fiber laid, backyard cabling laid, available 1 mile north, gradually moving south).
I was not planning to switch, and a sweet, just-about-right-priced deal like this (hopefully with some additional initial discount for signing up) will be all I need to upgrade from my Adelphia pricing ($130ish for 8/768 with all the channels but no phone line) to the top plan ($159) and even do away with my Vonage ($25ish) line 
The bean-counters at Comcast are earning their pay, lately Keep it up! (and the prices sensible) |

Minor bash - its being offered with the triple play - there are no good deals for old custormers for just cable or cable and internet. And of course if you just want internet you really get it. |

Once my current promo runs out in September of this year I would gladly agree for two years for the Triple Play Premier if it was available to me. So I'd pay 160 plus 27 bucks extra for my two DVR boxes and another 6 bucks in taxes. So I'm sure I'd be under 200 bucks and I'd get the Digital Sports package and faster internet combined for ten bucks more than what I pay in my current promo. |

Cool, I always thought they should offer contracts to help subsidize lower cost cable. Cell phone companies have been doing that for YEARS! Sure the early termination fee sucks, but with prices increasing every year, a contract ensures your good deal pricing stays the same for the time period. What happens though when you move? It's not your fault if the house you like isn't serviced by Comcast. Would you still pay the early termination fee? I'd think about that offer if they had it here, but I can't guarantee I'm going to live here for 2 years. We might move to a bigger place in a year or so. The area's we've been looking would require subscribing to Service Electric Cable TV. |

| From what I've been told is that this offer will start to be rolled out into all of the New England region. After that it will start to be rolled out into all other Comcast markets. Just keep in mind that some Comcast markets "may not" offer this deal but I'm hearing most will offer it. Beyond that I have no specific timeframes for this sadly to say.
Now beyond that yes if you move into another market that isn't served by Comcast you must pay a pro-rated amount of no more than 150 bucks. So if you kept service for exactly one year and moved into a market not served by Comcast you must pay 75 bucks as a cancellation fee. Also if you really are moving outside of a Comcast market sometimes they will waive the cancellation fee but of course we cannot promise that.
Also say after a year you move into another Comcast market but this specific market doesn't offer this specific bundle deal. Well in that case one of two things will occur.
1. The new Comcast market will just let your deal continue while still not offering their existing customers this deal. So in this case its as if you never moved.
2. If they don't want to let you finish out your contract they will just cancel your contract and start billing you their normal new customer promo. They will not charge you a cancellation fee of any amount if they don't want to honor the contract. The reason for this is that your signing a contract with Comcast and not just Comcast in xxxxx market so if one Comcast area doesn't want to honor it and you are willing to honor your end of the contract they cannot charge you the cancellation fee as they cancelled your contract of their own free doing not yours.
In simple terms contract law plays out in this case is all. |

I was offered a similar 2 year contract when signing up for digital voice last month. I had to do a double take when she said contract.
I was wondering when this crap was gonna start coming. My guess is that eventually all service will be based on contracts soon (unless you want to pay a higher rate). This will be the only way to stop the churn that FIOS is creating.
Verizon is laying conduit on my property right now. I plan to switch to them for internet as soon as it is available and I don't even have HSI from Comcast yet!
I will wait on FIOS TV even though it is offered in my town.... a little too bleeding edge right now. |

Just received a proposed two-year deal from Comcast in yesterday's mail...but the only offer on the flyer was for the Triple Play Preferred (the $129.99 package with the three premium movie channels)...plus the option to add a DVR for 9.99 more. In my case, I have no interest in the phone service, so it will be interesting if Comcast has other deals brewing for those who are not interested in the full suite of services...probably will be handled in the form of "unadvertised specials" by the retention crew for those contemplating switching companies. Comcast will probably see what volume of customers they get for a two-year committment for all three before offering anything else. |

| Funny...I also got a flyer in yesterday's mail but my offer was only for the Premier Triple Play Bundle at $159.99, basically Digital Voice, Digital Platinum w/ the Digital Sports Tier, and 8 Mbps (or 16 Mbps where available) HSI. It's a good value, but I'm not making any two-year commitments until I see what Verizon offers later this year when FiOS becomes available. Besides, I'm not sure I want Digital Voice nor do I care much about the channels in the Sports Tier. |

| Personally, I would be *scared* to sign a 2 year deal with Comcast. Especially with the uncertainty as to where they will stand come the end of this year when DTV is able to offer so many HD channels. Everything I read on this site seems to indicate Comcast may have trouble competing because they simply can't find the bandwidth. No committment here until I see how this pans out. |

What you have to do is weigh the price of the offered package against what you would pay for what you actually wanted (for example, the Sports Tier is just a $4.99 package a la carte so I'm sure it doesn't have a major impact on the package price) ...however, to get Digital Phone if you do not really want it just because its all cheaper together would not make this package a bargain for you).
My calculations have me saving in the $30-40/mo. range for the Verizon v.Comcast services I want (TV and Internet), so why go for the long committment when the FIOS month-to-month price is as good or better than the Comcast contract commitment price? There are stations that Comcast carries and Verizon does not and vice versa....I'm satisfied that I can live with the FIOS lineup (e.g. I lose MSG and FSTV HD feeds, but get HD Net and HD Movies; I lose CSTV, but get ESPNU and FSE, I lose MSNBC (ouch), but get IFC, CNN INternational, etc.) but if there are stations you do not want to give up regardless of price difference, its better to stay put. |

I haven't received this offer yet, but since it includes Digital Voice, I'm not interested. I calculated what it cost for two phone lines hooked up to DV and it wouldn't be much cheaper than what I'm paying Verizon. Plus I'm really interested in getting FIOS when it comes to my area, so I really don't want to go through the hassle of signing a two year contract with Comcast and then having to cancel.
Comcast should do like Cablevision does and offer Double Play offers, which drastically reduce your bill. Or even better Triple Play offers, that after the first year still give you large savings.

I got this letter yesterday. I was ready to call and order it, thinking Comcast FINALLY has been forced to offer a good deal. Then I read the fine print.
The deal is NOT for two years, it's for THREE years. You get two years for $129 (w/ HBO, SHO, STZ), but then there is ZERO mention of how much the third year will cost.
Has anyone inquired about this? I don't want to suddenly get a bill one month for $250 or something, then have to pay another $150 to get out of paying a ridiculously high rate for the third year.
