| Comcast Does It Again - HSI Cancellation
Just called Comcast to cancel my HSI service.... was going to go up to the payment center myself but a family emergency prevented me from getting up there yesterday or today. So I called today so I could be cancelled in the month of December as to not be charged for January.
Told them I wanted to cancel and they offered to pick up my modem. This sounded convenient as I have to work everyday this week an can't make it up during their business hours... plus my DVR is bad and I wanted it changed out... but the girl told me she couldn't do the DVR on this ticket. Ok whatever... I'll do it myself another time.
The first appointment they have to pick up the modem is next Thursday... I said I'd prefer a Monday as long as I don't get charged for the internet service in the meantime. Thank God I mentioned this as she then said it doesn't work that way... you get charged until they get the modem back since they have no way of knowing whether you're using it or not.
Ha! The company that cutoff my usage two weeks ago with no warning now says they can't do that.
This is the final straw... I was going to keep Comcast at least until Verizon TV was available in late 2007... now I'm going to Dish for their 10 month deal.
Their motto should be "Comcast: Finding new ways to jerk people around".

I believe this would be correct....You could indeed be downloading 100's of Mb's while not paying for the service.

Do they expect you to get out a hammer and pulverize it while they listen in on the phone? |

Gotta love that selective provisioning; it's COMCASTIC!
When you deal with a big company like this you're basically a fleck of breakfast cereal in the CEO's stool: he'll never notice and you're surrounded by elegant stink in a swirling pool.

| reply to PghNeon said by PghNeon :I wonder what they do when you OWN your cable modem. Do they expect you to get out a hammer and pulverize while they listen in on the phone? They want their modem back. It's theirs. Not yours. Therefore, service doesn't end until their equipment is back, regardless if you are using the service or not. They need to ensure that they get their equipment back.
Further, if you own your own modem, then they don't care about your modem and can just remove the MAC Address of the modem from your account, disabling the modem from acessing the Internet via Comcast's network. -- YourIP.US - Quickly Locate Your IP! |

I'll admit that if FiOS was available, I'd switch. But it isn't and I doubt that people are leaving in "droves". Not everyone has bad experiences with Comcast... and many have had bad experiences with Verizon.
A Dish does NOT indicate they do NOT have cable Internet. It just means they prefer Satellite TV. -- YourIP.US - Quickly Locate Your IP! |

Nobody said that... but I've never seen so many Dish customers in one neighborhood in all my life (been here 2 years).
Just another example of Comcast losing out on customers.
No surprising, Comcast cable prices aren't competive and their customer service sucks eggs.
Now I'm seeing FIOS installs on a daily basis.
Oh... and on top of it... during this call I cancelled my HBO (I never watch it) and of course I got the "well, you're still paying the $15.95 Adelphia price... I can give it to you for $5." Ummmm.. no.
Classic!! This is how these cable companies operate... they screw their existing customers over and only offer the deals when you're in the act of cancellation. |
