| Attach Router to At&t 2Wire Router/Modem 4 better security?
Hi,
I'm hooking up an AT&T 2Wire router/modem for a friend. I don't know the exact modem number, but it's the newer router/modem (white) and has 4 ports.
The wireless is 64 bit WEP and is unacceptable to me. Is there anyway I can hook up another router to this modem so that I can enable WPA on this line for the 2nd computer? |

| Hello, The 2wire should have WPA available. If you connect 2 routers together you would have to the first one in-line in bridge mode. Otherwise it creates problems (I experienced slow to no connection b4 my 2wire died). -- I used to have super human powers.....
But my therapist took them away. |

| reply to lawilson2 Connecting two together, will just cause problems. You are better off only using the 2Wire, which has a robust firewall. As for the WiFi encryption, if it is a newer model, it will be using 54g WPA-PSK. -- I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction! |

| That is probably because the person had WEP selected. This is the page for their modems »www.2wire.com/?p=106
As for the Spec's »www.2wire.com/?p=266 which can be found in the documentation. -- I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction! |

| Go to »gateway.2wire.net > Home Network > Wireless Settings, and change the Authentication to whichever WPA option you desire. Feel free to enter a custom key while you're in there -- just keep in mind you'll also have to enter it into any computers you want to connect, so don't make it something you can't remember. |
