Re: Your System - January 2007

I haven't got all my hardware yet as I ordered it from different places. But I expect my mainboard and cpu and memory to come in tomorrow. I already have a case, graphics card, and some other stuff.

This will be my system by this weekend:

New Hardware:

- Raidmax Smilodon case with 500 Watt PSU.
- Asus P5B Mainboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @2.4 Ghz
- 2 Gb (2x1Gb) PC6400 A-Data RAM.
- 250 Gb SATA disk (will probably add 2x500 Gb later)
- Asus EAX1950 Pro Graphics Card (ATI Radeon x1950 Pro 256 Mb)

Re-used Hardware from current PC:

- 40x CD/RW drive
- 8x DVD-R/+R drive
- Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 MCE (1 month old)
- Floppy Disk Drive I had laying around.

My current PC (A Pentium 4 @ 2,53 Ghz) will replace my current Pentium II-350 Mhz server, and that piece of crap will be relocated to the big square metal "archive" on the parking lot behind my apartment. I already partly rebuild the new server in anticipation of my new hardware by removing the CD/RW, DVD/RW and TV-Card, and adding a 60 Gb drive that I pulled from the P2. It will only have a DVD-ROM, but three harddrives of 160, 120, and 60 - so my little P4 server will have 340 Gb of diskspace.

Just finished making a few changes to my system, I hope for the better. I recently switched cell phone providers, and wanted to run ORB on my computer to access TV and other files. The ATI AIW graphics card was a software based MPEG-2 encoder, and just ate all of the computers resources when in use. Plus, I'm glad to be rid of those huge ATI/Catalyst drivers and utils! Now, TV activities are using less than half the processor power than before, and the system no longer takes 60+ seconds to settle down after restarting Windows.

Cost of the two replacement cards is about what I'll be getting back from reselling the ATI card, and utilizing the only PCI slot that the Shuttle has.
