IMO, Qwest is indeed probably too late in Omaha and Phoenix, where Cox has taken away a very large percentage of business from Qwest over the years. In areas where the competition is Comcast, Midco, Bresnan, or someone else, Qwest probably has more time.

| Cox has taken significant business from Qwest in Phoenix, but Qwest still does pretty well there. Cox cable is significantly more expensive with only 512k upstream speed- as with pretty much everywhere else DSL competes on price instead of speed. If you're willing to make a 2 year commitment, Qwest's 7M/1M (or 7M/896k) service is still $8 cheaper than Cox's 7M/512k.
Yes, Cox has 12M/1M, but at $60 a month. The average user who just surfs the web, uses e-mail and downloads the occasional picture really has little need for 12M. Most users aren't as speed-obssesed as the majority on this forum, and will often opt for a 1.5M connection that costs half as much. |
