said by matcarl :Replay used to be 7 seconds, you mean you can alter that too? Yes. the options for Replay are the same as what is shown in the screen shot for Skip - 30 secs, 1 min, 2 mins & 5 mins.
Edit: I just verified watching the news that shows the time in the corner that pressing it twice skips it back 1 min on live tv. |

1 edit | You mean it doesn't go back just a few seconds? 30 seconds is the least? That sucks. Replay always meant to go back the last few seconds to see something you just missed. I don't want to go back 30 seconds, I might as well just hit rewind then. Edit: Geek, it says in the new instruction book that Replay goes back 7 seconds. Are you sure it's in 30 sec increments? |

| reply to GeekNJ said by GeekNJ :said by blue_trooper :said by bgtimber75 :I don't think we'll ever get a true dual tuner set up. I wonder if this is something Tivo has a patent on? The Moto hardware supports dual live buffers and tuner swapping, I had it with Comcast. The 6416 user guide from Motorola references this function as well. The Verizon function (e.g. if you're watching something that you are recording and change the channel it swaps tuners on the fly) might actually be better for the casual viewer (e.g. my kids) but I miss the dual buffers. Using the new guide... if I press pause on 807 and then press channel up to go to 809, going back to 807 starts the program live and I can't rewind. I think that's what you all mean by "dual buffer" correct? If it had 2 active buffers, going back to 807 it would show paused and all the programming since I paused it would be stored on the DVR drive for me to continue watching. Generally when people talk "dual buffers" they're referring to Tivo functionality. This moto dvr has one live buffer. It starts filling up when I change to a channel. Change to another and buffer starts filling all over again. So it has two tuners, but only one live buffer.
Tivo (and other DVRs on the market) have two live buffers. Meaning, while watching live tv you could actively flip between the two tuners, and therefore the two buffers. When you change the channel on one of those tuners, then the corresponding buffer would start over again, but the other buffer would continue rocking along. Also, tivo's pretty smart about that stuff to. Say I had tuner 1 on channel 50, and tuner 2 on channel 100. Go to tuner 1. Now, while on that tuner, switch to channel 100. You would think that both tuners would now be on 100. Nope. It recognizes the fact that you want to go the channel that the other tuner is currently tuned to. So instead of changing channels, it just flipped tuners for you (all seemlessly, and totally transparent to the user).
What dual live buffers allows you to do is flip between shows without losing the buffer. I'm watching channel 50 on tuner 1, and channel 100 on tuner 2. I'm actively watching tuner 1. It gets to a commercial. I flip to tuner 2, and rewind that buffer to where I left off before, and watch channel 100 for a while. It hits commercial. So I flip back to tuner 1, and rewind to where I left off with that show. I would imagine that you could also pause when flipping between tuners to save you the trouble of having to rewind, but I never tried that when I had my tivo.
That's what folks are referring to with dual buffers. |

I used the replay button mostly when fast forwarding so in that case it might help with the reaction time of that function. |

| (slightly off-topic) I got a coupon in the mail yesterday for a free Philips remote that can be picked up from a local Verizon store (this is the remote that goes with the new IMG). Maybe this means they'll be rolling it out soon in our area (Dallas)! |

Instant replay should be 6-8 seconds at the min, not 30 seconds. Options of 7s, 10s, and 15s would be more appropriate. |

| reply to matcarl Yeah two things:
1. The dual buffer on a comcast SA box works off the PIP. If you don't enable PIP and pause what you are watching, then change the channel you just cleared the buffer.
If you enable PIP and pause what you are watching then swap the PIP's the previous channel would stay paused.
Man I miss PIP. I would always put the channel I was watching in PIP during a commercial and then I could swap and then roam with the other window and then see when the channel I was watching came back from commercial.
2. The generic show info on the guide is annoying. Check Late Night with Conan O'Brien if you would, since I have had FIOS it has never shown the guests, it only has Conan O'Brien took over the late night spot after Jay Leno blah blah blah in the show description. |

Yep, I got the same coupon, and I went to the Southlake store last night and picked one up, along with the free 128MB flash drive.
Of course I still have the old guide, but my limited testing shows:
1) The 30 second skip works. The backspace appears to be about 4 or 5 seconds.
2) The button labeled Widgets does nothing, but the triangular A button does start/stop the weather/traffic widget.
3) The triangular B, C, and a new D button appear to do nothing (again, current guide, not the new one).
4) The new buttons/layout sure takes some getting used to. At this point I am not sure which I like better, the old or the new (but I have had the old for about 21 months, I guess I need to give it some time).
5) Something that seems to be missing is the Page Up/Page Down and the Day + and Day - buttons. I use those quite a bit on the old Motorola remote, have yet to find if there is an equivalent on the new one (anybody know?).
6) Lighted buttons - kinda nice in the dark.
7) By default the power button turns on and off both the TV and the DVR (can be changed to control individually).
8) Response to buttons seems about the same, maybe slightly better (mine has always been good).
9) Remote does not have to be as directly aimed at the DVR for it to recognize a command. This is much improved over the original remote operation.
That is about all I have discovered for now. -- Justin Verizon FiOS TV and Internet Motorola QIP6416 HD DVR Sony KDL-V40XBR1 |

I personally don't mind it because I use that button for a different purpose then pressing it for a "what did she say?" reason when you can't hear something. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| reply to justin9876 I got the new remote with new installation last week. The tech told me that when the new IMG rolls out that the triangular A button which now activates widgets would be moved to the widgets button and that page up/down would be possible although he didn't say which keys it would be on. He also said the original roll-out date for our area (washington-dc) was June 4th but was delayed, he did not know the new roll-out date. Btw, which button does the 30 sec skip? |

If I am in the Guide and hit channel up or down it removes the Guide from the screen and goes up or down one channel from the one I was on when I started the Guide (exactly the same thing happens on the old Motorola remote).
