| something funny yet sad.
Well apparently my brother picked up some malware that was giving him ads. So I told him to get "Spybot" he downloads and pays for Spywarebot. He thought it was the same thing!
Well apparently his machine now kept telling him he has spyware and told spywarebot to clean it but it says it can't
So over to my house it comes. WHat's the first thing Spybot finds, you guessed it Spywarebot and all it's "friends" that came to visit..
he says "So I got took for $20 right?"
me (trying to make it look good)"Well you learned a lesson right? " -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois... YOU'RE FIRED!!

| reply to David Indeed that is very sad but all too common.
This topic is a good reminder that when recommending a product to anyone, always supply a link to the vendor's website to be sure they do not get trapped into downloading a bogus ripoff instead.
For Spybot Search & Destroy, the official site is: »www.safer-networking.org/
Two more ripoff rogue sites masquerading as Spybot S & D were reported at the Spybot Forums last week: »forums.spybot.info/showthread.ph···ost61661
These are the two new rogues that will be added to Eric's Howe's Rogue and Suspect List 1. »www.spybot-2007.com/
2. »www.get-spybot.com/
You can view Eric's list of sites to avoid that lists the most common ripoff sites and copycat programs here: Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites »www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_ant···ware.htm
Be sure to give that link to your friends and relatives as well. It is a good for them to have bookmarked in their favorites -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a femaleMicrosoft MVP/Windows Security 2003-2007Proud Member of ASAP (Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals) |

Although dually noted and I will send him a link to this thread advising as such. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois... YOU'RE FIRED!!
