PoMC join:2006-09-06 Browns Mills, NJ | May have a problem after the Comcast switch.... I was just reading through this forum because my Adelphia office is due to officially switch to Comcast in a few months. I was reading the "Comcast Abuse Call" thread and realized I may be getting one of those calls after I'm with Comcast for a while. Although, the billing has already switched to Comcast, so maybe I'll get a call sooner.
Here are my usenet downloading stats, as per the Newsbin odometer, since 10/8/06.
1.2TB downloaded in 96 days (10/8/06 - 1/11/07)
Average out to 12+ GB downloaded per day, which would equal roughly 380+ GB per month.
What do I download? Mainly HDTV content that I stream to my HD projector using my Buffalo Linktheater. Each movie averages 10-15GB. Each half hour TV show is about 2GB and each hour show is almost 4GB. I freely admit that my queue is always full since I can remote in from work and keep adding to it all day. 40GB in the queue right now too.
But I have an ace up my sleeve if I ever get a call and they'll never detect me again. That's all I'll say on that. LOL |

I, for one, do NOT like the idea of any caps, invisible or not, on a 'broadband' service.. it's pointless and defeats the whole broadband premise. I say Let us use our expensive connections to their fullest.
P.S. I avg approx 250 - 280GB /mo total up and down in video (mostly anime) and misc web files (I run a few large websites) so I hear where the OP is coming from. -- Webmaster - Steve - - - - - - - - - - - - »ppnhosting.com »www.1-gb.net »pokemonpalace.net |

My suggestion, if you don't want to get "The Call", cut back! If what you are downloading is HDTV programming, why not just get HDTV and record it? -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

PoMC join:2006-09-06 Browns Mills, NJ | I do have HD programming, but an HD Tivo or other HD recording is a bit pricey still. I don't mind d/ling Prison Break, House, 30 Rock or whatever the following day anyway.
Anyway, most of the folks in my development either have dialup or Frontier DSL. I know because I run the HOA website and have everyones email address.
I didn't post to rub in anyone's face like one poster said. Just surprised me how much I download. Wonder why Adelphia doesn't care though. Been with them for a year and am always a heavy user. Was with Comcast before that too and never had a problem.
I'll just keep on going and see what happens. Like I said, there's a plan B if needed. |

 | reply to PoMC Who is he hurting if he downloads this stuff over night? say 1am to 7am? |

 | I agree with that statement. Another thing you can do (if you have powerboost in your area) is run a speedtest at peak hours. If you are receiving powerboost, theoretically other people should not be slowed down because of your actions.
I used to download 850-900gigs a month with adelphia. I was switched over to comcast, I think I'm down to somewhere around 600 now. The "invisible limit" depends on your area as well. I wish I didn't have to try to reach the limit and get a warning to find out what it is though. |
